The Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy (TIMEP) has announced an open call for applications for its 2025-2026 Nonresident Fellowship Program, inviting young and mid-career advocates, researchers, journalists, and legal experts to apply for the prestigious fellowship.

The fellowship provides a unique platform for individuals working on critical issues affecting the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, empowering them with skills, networks, and resources to influence policy and drive social change. Fellows will receive a stipend and work remotely over the 12-month duration, contributing approximately 15-20 hours per month to their proposed mandates.

Available Programs and Focus Areas

TIMEP fellows focus on specific mandates within key thematic areas and geographic priorities. Applicants are encouraged to propose topics related to TIMEP’s Areas of Focus, which include:

  • Energy & Environment
  • Development & Economy
  • Law & Accountability
  • Governance & Politics
  • Social Movements
  • Gender & Sexuality
  • Religious & Ethnic Minorities
  • Migration & Displacement
  • Arts & Culture
  • Media & Press
  • Security & Conflict

Fellows may select a mandate focusing on one or more countries, with priority given to Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan, Syria, and Lebanon. However, applications covering additional countries in North Africa and the Levant will also be considered.

As part of the cohort, TIMEP will designate two named fellows: The Sarah Hegazi Nonresident Fellow and the Mohamed Aboelgheit Nonresident Fellow, honoring their legacy in advocacy and journalism. Candidates interested in these named fellowships can indicate their preference in the application.


Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • At least five (05) years of relevant work or academic experience related to the proposed area of focus.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Proficiency in English and Arabic (written and spoken).
  • Demonstrated commitment to TIMEP’s mission of promoting transparency, accountability, and justice in the MENA region.
  • Connectivity to civil society, grassroots groups, or advocacy networks.

Preference will be given to applicants living or working in the MENA region to ensure localized perspectives in policy discussions.

The last date to apply for the 2025-2026 TIMEP Nonresident Fellowship is February 28, 2025. Candidates who pass the initial screening will be invited to submit a more detailed statement of interest in the second round of the selection process.
