10 New Occupations Required by New Zealand Starting August 18, 2025 Under Work to Residence Green List Pathway

The 10 New Occupations Added to the Green List Required by New Zealand Starting Aug 18, 2025:

  1. Fitter (General)
  2. Metal Machinist (First Class)
  3. Metal Fabricator
  4. Fitter and Turner
  5. Pressure Welder
  6. Vehicle Painter
  7. Fitter Welder
  8. Panel Beater
  9. Paving Plant Operator
  10. Welder workers.

If you’re already employed—or have a job offer—in one of these roles and have been working in New Zealand for 24 months, you’ll soon be eligible to apply for residency!


What You’ll Need to Qualify?

  • A job or job offer in one of the new Green List trades
  • Be 55 years or under at the time of applying
  • Meet health, character, and English language requirements
  • Have 24 months of full-time, paid experience in the listed role in New Zealand
  • Earn at least the required hourly wage:
    • $43.63/hour (or $90,750/year) for Metalworkers, Fitters, and Welders
    • $38.59/hour (or $80,267/year) for Vehicle Painters, Panel Beaters, and Paving Plant Operators

These wage thresholds are designed to attract top-tier, experienced professionals and were established in consultation with industry groups during the Green List review.


Also Coming in August 2025: Wage Threshold Updates

On 18 August 2025, Immigration New Zealand will also update the median wage thresholds across multiple skilled residence visa categories—including the Skilled Migrant Category, Work to Residence, and Straight to Residence.

The new median wage will be set at $33.56/hour, reflecting updated 2024 market data. This ensures that immigration policies remain aligned with real-time economic demands and talent needs.
