Research in Pairs Fellowships 2026 for Candidates from Developing Countries
The CIMPA-ICTP “Research in Pairs” Fellowship 2026 is now open for applications! This prestigious program offers mathematicians from developing countries an opportunity to collaborate with European colleagues on well-defined research projects. This French fellowship funds visits to top European institutions, enabling researchers to advance their work while contributing to the global academic community.
What is the CIMPA-ICTP Fellowship?
The CIMPA-ICTP “Research in Pairs” program promotes international collaboration by supporting mathematicians from developing countries to conduct research with European colleagues. The fellowship primarily takes place at the host researcher’s institution, with an added opportunity to record a mathematics mini-course for future learners.
Priority will be given to researchers who:
- Remain scientifically active despite heavy teaching, administrative, or supervision duties.
- Have had limited travel opportunities in the past five (05) years.
Fellowship Benefits
Selected candidates will receive funding based on their location and visit duration, with a maximum award of €10,000. The fellowship will cover transportation, accommodation, visa costs, and insurance. The minimum stay is 5 weeks for research collaboration, plus 1 extra week for recording the mini-course.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for the CIMPA-ICTP Fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
1# Applicant Requirements:

- Must have defended their PhD at least 3 years ago.
- Must have been employed in one or more academic institutions in a developing country for the past 5 years.
- Must be prepared to record an 8-hour mathematics mini-course during their stay, aimed at master’s or early PhD students.
2# Host Requirements:

- The European colleague must hold a PhD in mathematics.
- The host institution must be located in one of the following countries:
- Germany
- Spain
- France
- Italy
- Netherlands
- Norway
- Switzerland
- The host must provide a supporting letter, which is crucial for the application’s success.
