Programs You Can Apply For at Osaka University

Undergraduate Programs (via University Recommendation): You must first pass the entrance exam of the designated undergraduate program before being considered for nomination.

    1. Human Sciences International Undergraduate Degree Program (HUS)
    2. International Undergraduate Program in Science (IUPS)

Graduate Level Programs: Students generally start as research students for 6 to 12 months and can transition to a full master’s or doctoral program after passing the entrance exam.


Who Can Apply?

Undergraduate Applicants:

    • Must belong to a country with diplomatic relations with Japan
    • Must pass the entrance exam for eligible Osaka University programs
    • Embassy Recommendation students must first complete a one-year Japanese language course.

Graduate Applicants:

    • Must hold a relevant bachelor’s/master’s degree before arriving
    • Must pass screening by Japanese embassies or consulates in their home country
    • Must request a Letter of Acceptance from Osaka University after the embassy’s first screening
    • Japanese language training available if required before admission.

Application Timeline

The last date to apply for the MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship at Osaka University for AY2026 is Monday, September 1, 2025 (Japan Time). And the applications received on or after August 10, 2025, will NOT be considered.
