University of Pisa Opens Scholarship Admissions 2026 in Italy

The University of Pisa has officially opened applications for the Master of Science in Exploration and Applied Geophysics for the 2026/27 academic year, inviting both Non-EU and EU international students to apply. This English-taught program offers a strong scientific and research-driven pathway for students seeking advanced expertise in geophysics while benefiting from Italy’s competitive scholarship ecosystem.

Why Choose the University of Pisa & Italian Scholarships?

Founded in 1343, the University of Pisa is one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious public universities. It consistently ranks among the top 300 universities worldwide and among the top four in Italy, offering students a globally recognized degree backed by world-class faculty and research facilities.

Italy is known for offering generous scholarship schemes—particularly in Tuscany—making it one of Europe’s most financially accessible destinations for higher education. At the University of Pisa, students can access multiple scholarship opportunities, including:

  • DSU Scholarship (full tuition exemption, accommodation, meals, monthly stipend)
  • MAECI Scholarship offered by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Invest Your Talent in Italy (IYT) for selected nationalities
  • Academic Excellence Award for top-performing first-year students

These competitive funding options allow international students to pursue a high-quality education with significantly reduced financial pressure.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must hold a relevant scientific bachelor’s degree or an equivalent foreign qualification. To be considered, candidates must meet the following minimum academic criteria:

  • A minimum of 20 ECTS in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or Informatics
  • A minimum of 60 ECTS in Engineering, Physics, or Geology subjects

Degrees in Geological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Physics, and Computer Sciences generally meet these requirements.

Additionally:

  • The program is fully taught in English, requiring B2-level proficiency or higher.
  • All candidates undergo academic document screening followed by an online video interview with an assessment test to evaluate their preparation in Mathematics and Physics.

How to Apply?

Applications must be submitted exclusively through the University of Pisa’s official online portal for international master’s programs.

A new update for this admission cycle includes a mandatory €30 application fee per application. Students may apply to up to two MSc programs, but each application requires a separate payment. Applications cannot be submitted without completing this fee on the portal.

The online form requires uploading academic transcripts, degree certificates, identification documents, English proficiency proof, and any other program-specific documents. Once the application is submitted and the fee is paid, the evaluation process begins, followed by the interview stage.

Application Timeline

Applications open on:→ 28 November at 12:00 PM (noon), Academic Year 2026/27.

There is no official closing deadline. However, the University of Pisa strongly advises non-EU students to apply as early as possible to ensure:

  • Plenty of time for evaluation
  • Enough time to prepare visa documents
  • Early access to scholarship application windows
  • Smoother processing of qualification verification.
