What Makes the Ellison Scholars Programme Different?

Most prestigious scholarships focus solely on funding a degree. The Ellison Scholars Programme takes a very different approach.

Selected scholars pursue their chosen undergraduate degree at the University of Oxford while simultaneously becoming members of the Ellison Institute of Technology’s research community.

Between academic years, scholars undertake 10-week paid summer internships, working directly alongside researchers, scientists, innovators, and industry experts on projects designed to address some of humanity’s most pressing challenges.

This means students gain practical research experience years earlier than is typically possible in conventional undergraduate education.

Rather than waiting until postgraduate study to engage in cutting-edge research, Ellison Scholars begin building real-world impact throughout their undergraduate years.

Ellison Scholarship Benefits

The Undergraduate Ellison Scholars Programme provides comprehensive financial support throughout the duration of study at Oxford.

Selected scholars will receive:

  • Full University of Oxford tuition fee coverage
  • Full living cost support throughout the degree
  • Access to the Ellison Scholars community
  • Ten-week paid summer research internships
  • Direct collaboration with leading researchers and innovators
  • Mentorship from EIT experts and Faculty Fellows
  • Hands-on experience solving global challenges
  • Access to world-class research facilities and laboratories
  • Opportunities to build international professional networks

For many students, this scholarship removes the financial barriers that often prevent talented applicants from accessing a world-class Oxford education.

Research Areas and Project Themes

Summer internships are organized around EIT Oxford’s four major research missions, known as its “Humane Endeavors.”

1# Health, Medical Science and Generative Biology: Projects focus on advancing healthcare technologies, disease prevention, medical innovation, biotechnology, and next-generation biological solutions.

2# Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture: Research in this area seeks solutions to improve global food production, agricultural sustainability, crop resilience, and nutrition systems.

3# Climate Change and Atmospheric Carbon Management: Students may contribute to projects addressing carbon reduction, climate resilience, environmental technologies, and atmospheric science.

4# Artificial Intelligence and Robotics: This research stream explores AI innovation, autonomous systems, machine learning applications, intelligent robotics, and emerging digital technologies.

Eligible Academic Fields

One of the strengths of the Ellison programme is that applicants are not restricted to a narrow set of academic disciplines.

Students from a wide range of subject backgrounds can contribute to EIT’s mission. Fields that may align strongly with the programme include:

Ellison Scholars Programme 2027 Timeline

The last date to apply for the Undergraduate Ellison Scholars Programme for Oxford University October 2027 entry is 31 July 2026. Candidates shortlisted as semi-finalists are expected to receive notifications between September and October 2026, after which they must complete Oxford University’s separate undergraduate admissions process through UCAS.

Applicants who successfully secure an Oxford offer will proceed to final interviews with the EIT Faculty of Fellows during January and February 2027. The final cohort of Ellison Scholars is expected to be announced in March or April 2027, with selected students commencing their studies at the University of Oxford in October 2027.

Why International Students Should Pay Attention?

The global scholarship landscape contains many prestigious awards, but very few provide undergraduate students with a direct bridge between elite education and active research.

The Ellison Scholars Programme stands out because it allows students to enter Oxford while simultaneously becoming part of a mission-driven research institute.

For talented students from South Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, where financial limitations often prevent access to institutions like Oxford, this scholarship offers a genuinely accessible route based on merit rather than nationality.

Competition will undoubtedly be intense. Only a small cohort will ultimately be selected. However, for students who have already distinguished themselves through academic achievement, innovation, research, entrepreneurship, or community impact, the upcoming application cycle represents one of the most significant undergraduate opportunities available anywhere in the world.
