HTW Germany MIDE-DAAD Scholarships 2027 Intake Open for All
If you want to study International and Development Economics (MIDE) at HTW Berlin from April 2027, applications are open—but there is one major change applicants should notice immediately: DAAD EPOS funding is not available for this intake.
That means you can still apply for the MIDE Master’s programme, but you must plan to finance the degree through your own resources or alternative funding.
The MIDE-DAAD German Scholarship programme starts on 1 April 2027, lasts 18 months, and costs €2,500 for the full programme, plus the semester contribution charged each semester.
Who Can Apply for MIDE 2027?
The basic academic requirement is straightforward.
You need a first university degree worth at least 180 ECTS or an equivalent qualification.
Your previous studies must also include enough Economics. HTW Berlin requires at least:
- 15 ECTS in Economics, or
- For degrees outside the ECTS system, at least three Economics-related modules
This is important for applicants coming from Business, Finance, Development Studies or related subjects. A relevant degree title alone does not guarantee eligibility if your transcript does not contain enough Economics coursework.
Is IELTS Compulsory for DAAD-MIDE Scholarship?
Not always.
You must provide evidence of English proficiency, but if your previous university degree was taught in English, HTW Berlin states that no additional English-language proof is required.
So applicants with an official English-medium degree may not need to take IELTS simply for MIDE admission.
How Competitive Is Admission?
MIDE does not evaluate candidates only on GPA.
The admission score is divided into three parts:
- CGPA – 40%
- Number of Economics courses – 25%
- Motivation letter – 35%
That 35% weighting makes the motivation letter unusually important.
A strong letter should explain why development economics fits your previous education, what economic or development problem interests you, what you want to do after graduation, and why MIDE is relevant to those plans.
Do not spend two pages repeating your CV.
What Documents Do You Need?
The online application for MIDE scholarship 2027 at HTW requires electronic copies of:
- Signed and dated motivation letter of no more than two pages
- Transcript and degree certificate
- CGPA information
- Explanation of your university grading system
- Signed and dated Europass CV
- Passport copy
- English-language evidence where required
- If your academic documents are not in English or German, official translations are required.
Certified hardcopies are not needed at the application stage. Only admitted students who accept their place later need to provide certified documents.
Do You Apply Through Uni-Assist for MIDE Scholarship at HTW?
No. MIDE applications for this cycle are handled directly by HTW Berlin.
Create an account on the university application portal, select Summer Semester 2027, complete the MIDE application and upload your supporting documents. This saves applicants from unnecessarily preparing a separate Uni-Assist application.
What About the DAAD EPOS Scholarship?
This is the most important warning for the April 2027 intake.
MIDE will not offer DAAD EPOS scholarship funding for this admission cycle.
Do not submit a MIDE application expecting the usual EPOS stipend, travel support or other DAAD benefits. Applicants needing financial support should investigate other scholarship or funding options separately.
The absence of EPOS funding does not affect admission to MIDE itself.
MIDE April 2027 Application Deadline
Applications for the HTW Berlin MIDE April 2027 intake are accepted with last date of submission to be 30 September 2026. Because your Economics coursework and documentation need to be assessed, applying early gives you more time to resolve missing transcripts, translations or eligibility questions.
