For applicants from developing Asian countries, the Asian Development Bank–Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University is one of the rare Japan-based Master’s funding routes that can cover almost the entire cost of studying abroad: admission fee, tuition, living support, books, medical insurance and return airfare.

But this scholarship comes with a screening structure that applicants often misunderstand.

You do not apply directly to ADB first. You apply to Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU), request ADB-JSP consideration inside the university application, and then wait to see whether APU nominates you to ADB for the final scholarship decision.

The biggest mistake is treating basic eligibility as evidence of competitiveness.
