Cardiff defines eligibility by domicile, not simply passport nationality. The award is applied against tuition and cannot be taken as cash or substituted for the required admission deposit.
Which January 2027 Master’s Degrees Are Included?
The January intake 2027 at Cardiff university has a relatively short eligible-course list.
- Cardiff Business School: MSc AI+ Management, MSc Business Analytics, MSc Business Management and MSc Marketing.
- Computational and Mathematical Sciences: MSc AI+ Data Science and MSc Data Science and Analytics.
- Healthcare Sciences: MSc Occupational Therapy and MSc Physiotherapy.
Applicants choosing another Cardiff Master’s should therefore not assume the scholarship follows them automatically.
Eligibility Has One Important Catch
Applicants need an offer for an eligible postgraduate taught programme and must satisfy Cardiff’s scholarship conditions, including accepting the offer and paying the relevant deposit.
More importantly, the applicant must meet the original published academic entry requirement shown on the course page when applying.
If a programme normally requires, for example, 60% and Cardiff exercises admissions discretion to accept somebody with 58%, that student may still study at Cardiff—but will not qualify for this scholarship.
Why Cardiff’s Automatic Scholarship Is Stricter Than It First Appears?
The absence of a separate scholarship form makes this look easier than many UK funding competitions, but the real selection filter has simply moved into the admission process. Cardiff does not ask candidates to write another motivational essay or compete through a scholarship panel; instead, it protects the award by insisting that recipients satisfy the programme’s published academic minimum exactly, even where the university itself is willing to make a more flexible admission decision.
That distinction deserves attention. An applicant receiving a conditional or even final admission offer might reasonably assume that admission also proves scholarship eligibility. Cardiff explicitly says otherwise. The £10,000 Bangladesh and Nigeria awards are particularly valuable, but the same academic rule applies regardless of award size.
There is also no reason to describe this as fully funded: even the largest award is a tuition discount, with substantial fees and living expenses potentially remaining.
For applicants comfortably above their programme’s published entry standard, however, the automatic structure is refreshingly efficient compared with scholarships requiring another competitive application.
How to Apply — Follow This Order
- Choose one of Cardiff’s eligible January 2027 Master’s programmes.
- Check the course page and confirm you meet its published minimum academic and English requirements.
- Submit the postgraduate admission application with consideration request for Cardiff Vice Chancellor Scholarship.
- Receive your Cardiff offer of.
- Accept the offer.
- Pay any required tuition deposit by December 11, 2026.
- Cardiff then assesses eligible applicants automatically for the appropriate Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship.
Most international postgraduate taught programmes currently require a £2,500 deposit, although applicants should follow the amount stated in their individual offer letter.
Eligible applicants initially receiving unconditional offers are automatically granted the applicable scholarship, subject to the programme and scholarship terms.
Last Date to Apply for January 2027
January 2027 applicants must submit their Cardiff University course application by December 4, 2026. The more important second deadline arrives only a week later: the offer must be accepted and any required deposit paid by December 11, 2026. Cardiff specifically states that deposit extensions beyond December 11 will not be recognised for scholarship purposes.
That makes this less of a December scholarship search and more of a November admission job: applicants who want the funding should have their academic documents and English-language evidence ready well before the final week.
