Canadian University of Ottawa Scholarships 2027-2028 for International Students
Planning to study at the University of Ottawa in 2027? Start with your degree and teaching language: international bachelor’s applicants studying in English can receive C$7,500 per eligible term, while qualifying French-language students and postgraduate applicants follow separate funding routes.
January and September 2027 undergraduate applications are open. Choose an available programme first, then check which Ottawa scholarship applies to you.
Which University of Ottawa Scholarship Matches Your Study Plan?
Your grades and teaching language determine the undergraduate scholarship route. All figures below are Canadian dollars.
| Ottawa scholarship | What you receive | Check your eligibility |
|---|---|---|
| International English Admission Scholarship | C$7,500 per term; C$60,000 across eight study terms. | At least 80% admission average; approved English bachelor’s programme. |
| International English Academic Excellence Scholarship | Additional C$10,000; non-renewable; 100 awards. | At least 95% admission average; selection is competitive. |
| Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship | Undergraduate support generally C$12,500–C$18,000 per eligible term; master’s values vary. | Qualifying French-language or French-immersion study; cannot combine with the English awards. |
The two English scholarships cover approved programmes in Arts, Engineering, Health Sciences, Science, Social Sciences and Telfer Management. Ottawa calculates your admission average. These awards reduce tuition; budget separately for remaining fees and living costs.
January or September 2027: When Can You Enter the University of Ottawa?
Choose September for the widest undergraduate programme choice. January offers selected Arts, Social Sciences and Telfer programmes, but excludes Engineering and Health Sciences; Science winter admission is restricted to Canadian students.
International students cannot enter through Ottawa’s published spring-summer direct-entry undergraduate route. Graduate intake availability is programme-specific.
Does Your University of Ottawa Application Need IELTS?
IELTS is one option; an approved exemption or alternative test can also satisfy Ottawa’s undergraduate English requirement. Alternatives include Duolingo 120 overall and literacy, or TOEFL 4.5 overall and writing for tests taken after 21 January 2026.
Studied entirely in English? Three years of qualifying full-time education in a listed location, including Pakistan, Nigeria, Ghana or Kenya, can support an undergraduate exemption. Citizenship alone does not qualify you; Ottawa must approve the exemption.
Graduate IELTS guidance starts at 6.5 overall, 6.5 writing and no band below 6. Check your programme: requirements can be higher.
Looking for a University of Ottawa Master’s or PhD Scholarship?
The English entrance scholarships above are for bachelor’s students. Master’s funding depends on your programme and faculty.
Eligible international PhD applicants with an admission average of at least 8.0/10 may receive a four-year package of at least C$72,000. It combines C$9,000 annually in scholarship with at least C$9,000 annually in academic-unit support, which can include paid assistantships. Confirm the funding and enrolment conditions in writing.
