Applications are open for September 2027 entry. Your first decision is the study track: it determines your universities, specialisation and academic eligibility. This guide explains how to choose that route, understand the funding and prepare a complete scholarship application.

Which GLOCAL track would take you where?

Choose one track to study at three partner universities. Teaching is in English; joint or multiple degree awards depend on your route.

  • A — Global History and Creative Industries: Glasgow → Barcelona → Rotterdam.
  • B — Global Markets and Development: Glasgow → Barcelona → Göttingen.
  • C — Sustainable Business Development: Glasgow → Barcelona → Universidad de Los Andes, Bogotá.
  • D — Industrial Dynamics and Global Business: Glasgow → Barcelona → Kyoto.
  • E — Institutional Change and Creative Industries: Glasgow → Uppsala → Rotterdam.
  • F — Global Political Economy: Glasgow → Uppsala → Göttingen.
  • G — Sustainability: Institutions and Management: Glasgow → Uppsala → Universidad de Los Andes, Bogotá.
  • I — Entrepreneurship in Global Markets: Göttingen → Barcelona → Glasgow.

Track H is not recruiting for 2027. Compare academic content before choosing destinations: your previous studies must support the route you select.

What would the GLOCAL scholarship pay?

Successful recipients pay no tuition or programme deposit and receive insurance plus subsistence support. Choose €1,400 monthly for 24 months, or three €1,000 advances with €1,275 monthly for 24 months. Both arrangements total €33,600 in student payments.

The advances assist with travel, visas and installation, but are deducted from your overall award. Do not budget them as extra funding. The published scholarship pool spans four editions; it is not a promise of 60 awards for this intake.

Does your degree—and English evidence—qualify?

You need a UK 2:1 honours degree or its country-specific equivalent in a relevant discipline. Accepted backgrounds include business, economics, history, international relations, political science, sociology, anthropology, psychology, philosophy, literature, sustainability and related fields. There is no age limit.

Tracks B, F and I require at least one-quarter of your studies, or 60 ECTS, in economics, business, modern history, economic/social history, sociology, politics or a combination. Check your transcript before committing to one of these routes. Previous EMJM scholarship recipients cannot receive another through this call.

IELTS is one option, not the only accepted test. IELTS Academic requires 6.5 overall and 6.0 in every component; One Skill Retake is accepted. Alternatives include Duolingo at 120 overall, writing 120 and other subtests at least 110, or Cambridge C1/C2 at 176 overall and 169 per component.

Qualifying degrees from majority-English-speaking countries and certain UK-awarded overseas degrees can meet Glasgow’s exemption rules. An English-medium certificate alone does not establish eligibility for a waiver. Scholarship applicants must provide acceptable English evidence by the funding deadline.
