Funding: Up to US$60,000 per award, plus mentoring and technical support.

Can You Apply Before Completing Your First PhD Year?

Normally, you should complete your first doctoral year before applying. NVIDIA allows exceptional cases with substantial prior research, but says applicants without PhD experience are very unlikely to win. You must remain a full-time PhD student throughout the nine-month award year. Full-time NVIDIA employees and their immediate family members cannot participate.

This fellowship supports an existing doctoral research path. If you are still choosing a PhD, secure admission and establish your research direction before treating this award as a funding plan.

What Does the US$60,000 Award Actually Cover?

The award is paid through your university for stipend, tuition and mandatory fees. The amount varies by location and actual costs; US$60,000 is a ceiling. Ask your university how the award would affect your existing funding before assuming it becomes additional personal income.

NVIDIA highlights research in machine learning, autonomous vehicles, computer graphics, robotics, healthcare and high-performance computing. A useful preparation exercise is to explain your research problem, your contribution and why NVIDIA’s technology matters to the work.

What Should You Prepare for NVIDIA’s Application?

Prepare a focused proposal, your CV, recommendation letters and internship confirmation. Use the following checklist to organize the work.

Required item Submission rule
Research proposal Maximum two pages for text and images; bibliography excluded. Put your name at the top.
CV or resume Include contact information.
Recommendations Two or three letters; one must come from your thesis advisor/professor.
