CSC Scholarships 2027 | China Scholarship Council | Chinese Government Scholarship | High Level Postgraduate Scholarship

Your next degree in China could come with tuition support, accommodation and a monthly allowance—and your search can extend well beyond the country’s most famous universities. Chinese Government Scholarships 2027 offer routes to bachelor’s, master’s and PhD study across a nationwide network of more than 200 institutions, covering a broad range of subjects.

A modest GPA or the absence of an IELTS result does not automatically close that CSC scholarship opportunity. Chinese universities set different academic entry requirements, and some accept official evidence of previous English-medium study instead of a language test. The useful question is: which funded programme matches the qualifications and evidence you can present?

That is where a focused CSC scholarship also known as (Chinese High level postgraduate programme) application begins. This guide helps you identify suitable universities, choose the correct country or university route, obtain the required certificates and submit a coherent application. You will also understand what the funding covers and how admission, scholarship nomination and final approval fit together.

From hearing about CSC to building your own Application

The opportunity: Chinese Government Scholarships (CSC Scholarship also known as High level postgraduate programme) across a nationwide network of 200-plus institutions; current official guidance reports 289 designated universities.

Study levels: Bachelor’s, master’s and PhD through the relevant programme. High-Level Postgraduate funding is for master’s and PhD applicants.
Full funding: Tuition, approved accommodation, living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance. Partial awards also exist.
Application routes: Type A through the designated authority; Type B through a participating university.
Language and assessments: Programme-specific English or Chinese evidence; CSCA for undergraduate CSC applications.
2027 status: Calls and deadlines differ by institution and country; see the timing section below.
Official information reviewed: 14 October 2026. Network membership does not mean every university or major is currently open.

01 What does a fully funded Chinese Government Scholarship cover?

A full Chinese Government Scholarship normally covers tuition, approved accommodation, a monthly living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance. The degree-level stipend amounts appear in the table below; insurance is generally supported at CNY 800 per year and is not an additional cash allowance.

Accommodation may be a university dormitory or an approved housing subsidy. Funding runs for the period stated in the award, with continued support subject to scholarship review. Partial Government of China scholarships cover fewer expenses, and some high-fee programmes can leave a tuition difference.

Budget separately for passport and visa costs, translations, notarization, medical tests, applicable application or entrance-test fees, travel and initial spending before the allowance begins. International airfare and family expenses are not automatic entitlements under every full CSC award. These upfront costs matter even when the degree itself is funded.

02 Who qualifies for bachelor’s, master’s and PhD CSC China scholarships?

The general CSC high level postgrad scholarship eligibility rule is non-Chinese citizenship, appropriate academic qualifications and good physical and mental health. Applicants worldwide can explore the system, while individual calls may impose additional nationality, study-category or nomination restrictions.

Degree sought Standard qualification Standard age limit Full-award monthly stipend
Bachelor’s High-school diploma or equivalent Under 25 CNY 2,500
Master’s Bachelor’s degree or equivalent Under 35 CNY 3,000
PhD Master’s degree or equivalent Under 40 CNY 3,500

Bachelor’s degrees commonly take four to five years, master’s degrees two to three, and doctorates three to four or longer. Approved Chinese-language preparation can add time; the programme and scholarship documents determine the actual periods.

Final-year applicants can use an expected-graduation certificate where permitted, but must obtain the qualification by the enrolment cutoff. Direct doctoral entry from a bachelor’s degree is an institution-specific exception to the standard route.

No universal GPA qualifies you for every China government scholarship. Our comparison of academic requirements at 32 Chinese universities helps you identify suitable options. If your grades meet a programme’s threshold, strengthen your case through relevant projects, research preparation and credible recommendations; eligibility alone does not secure funding.

What are the age limits for Chinese Government Scholarship for Bachelor, Master or PhD Admissions in 2027?

CSC scholarship applicants generally must be under 25 for bachelor’s study, under 35 for master’s study and under 40 for PhD study. Provincial, university and ANSO scholarships can use different age limits or intake-specific birthdate cutoffs. Our China scholarship age requirements guide explains these differences; use your selected scholarship’s 2027–2028 notice to establish the applicable cutoff

03 Should you Choose the Type A or Type B CSC-Scholarship for China?

Type A CSC scholarship applications usually go through a designated authority; Type B applications are managed by a participating Chinese university. The category identifies the application channel, not the quality of the funding.

Type A CSC scholarships: the country or authority route

The Bilateral Programme can support bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral and scholar categories under the applicable agreement. Your country’s announcement names the receiver—such as the Chinese embassy, a ministry or national scholarship agency—and supplies its agency number, selection procedure and deadline.

Type A is an important starting route for undergraduate applicants and an alternative for postgraduate candidates. The country call determines the levels and places available; residence or study in a country does not automatically confer eligibility for its citizenship-based allocation.

Type B CSC scholarships: the direct university route

The High-Level Postgraduate Programme is a major Type B route for master’s and PhD study. It does not fund bachelor’s degrees. Other university-managed CSC schemes, including selected Silk Road awards, can have different degree, subject and nationality rules.

CSC instructions allow one Type B application per applicant per academic year. Preliminary screening at several universities may be possible where their rules permit it; our multiple-university CSC application guide explains how that differs from the single final scholarship submission. Creating another account does not increase the allowance.

For specialized China scholarship programmes, use the category specified in their instructions rather than assuming they are all “Type C”. Your next task is to find universities offering the degree through your eligible route.

Build your shortlist around subject fit, teaching language, academic entry requirements and eligibility for the actual scholarship. Research applicants should also consider departmental expertise and supervision; professional-degree applicants should consider recognition and licensing in their intended country of work.

Our Chinese university and agency-number directory extends the search beyond this selection. Record each shortlisted programme’s exact title, scholarship route, language evidence, supervisor requirement, portal, code, fees and deadlines. Those details turn university names into an actionable application plan.

05 Can an English proficiency certificate replace IELTS for CSC scholarships?

Yes—an official certificate of previous English-medium study can replace IELTS where the chosen university accepts it. The CSC scholarship programme has no blanket IELTS waiver, so select your programme’s accepted evidence before paying for a test.

How to obtain your English Language Proficiency Certificate

For this route, request an English Language Proficiency Certificate confirming English-medium study, often titled a Medium of Instruction (MOI) certificate. Graduates should request it from their university’s registrar, academic-records office, examinations office or another authorized administrative office. School-leavers should approach their school administration.

Ask for institutional letterhead and your passport name, qualification or programme, study dates, and the actual language of instruction and assessment. The document should carry an issue date, authorized signature, institutional stamp or seal where used, and verification contact details. A general statement that you “know English” may not establish that your previous programme was taught in English.

To use the certificate instead of IELTS: match it to the university’s stated exemption, then upload it in the language-evidence section of the university and CSC applications as instructed. Where a waiver option exists, select it; do not invent test scores. If the exemption requires an entire English-taught degree, a few English-language modules are insufficient.

Universities may instead accept TOEFL, Duolingo, nationality-based exemptions or specified assessments. Our CSC 2027 IELTS and English-medium certificate guide explains these options. Xiamen University’s published 2027 master’s admission guidance, for example, accepts an English-as-medium-of-instruction certificate among its alternatives.

Chinese-taught CSC degrees and the undergraduate CSCA

For Chinese-taught postgraduate programmes, the general CSC baseline is HSK Level 4; universities and subjects can require more. Undergraduate language conditions and funded preparatory arrangements follow the relevant call.

Bachelor’s CSC applicants also need a valid China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) report. Mathematics is a core subject; Professional Chinese applies to Chinese-taught programmes with specified exemptions, while physics and chemistry combinations depend on the major. English-taught study can remove the Professional Chinese component without removing the remaining CSCA requirement.

Arrange testing early enough to upload results by the deadline. Published CSCA guidance lists CNY 450 for one subject or CNY 700 for two or more, with the registration system supplying the payable fee. Master’s and PhD CSC applicants do not take CSCA simply because they seek funding, though their departments may use interviews or assessments.

06 Do CSC Scholarship Applicants need a Professor’s Acceptance letter?

Not every Chinese Government Scholarship application requires supervisor acceptance. Bachelor’s candidates normally follow undergraduate admissions; master’s requirements vary, and doctoral applicants are more likely to need supervisor involvement.

A supervisor acceptance letter records willingness to supervise, a signed proposal approves proposed research, and a university pre-admission letter records institutional assessment. These documents serve different purposes and do not themselves guarantee a CSC award.

Where supervision is required or useful, use our professor-matching and acceptance-letter guide to identify academics whose work connects with yours. Explain your preparation and proposed topic, attach a concise CV and research outline, and adapt the 8 professor-email samples into a personalized request. Obtain the particular document or signature your programme requires.

07 Which Documents Needed for Your Chinese Government Scholarship Application Dossier?

Prepare a common CSC application dossier that will be accepted at all Chinese Universities if you are applying for CSC high level postgraduate China Government Scholarship 2027-2028, and then add the requirements for your degree and route. The core documents are familiar academic and administrative records; accuracy, validity and programme fit matter more than an elaborate presentation.

  • Passport: A clear information-page scan and any additional identity evidence requested. General CSC guidance advises renewal if validity is less than 12 months from the intended study start.
  • Qualifications and transcripts: The relevant school or degree certificate, complete academic records, and expected-graduation evidence where permitted. Supply notarized copies or Chinese/English translations as required.
  • Language evidence: Accepted IELTS, TOEFL, HSK or other results, or the authorized English-medium certificate where accepted. Bachelor’s applicants also supply the required CSCA report.
  • Study plan or proposal: Follow the specified template and length. Some High-Level Postgraduate calls require more than 1,000 words or characters and a Chinese supervisor’s signature for doctoral proposals.
  • Recommendations: Master’s and doctoral candidates normally need two letters from professors or associate professors. Undergraduate references depend on the specific call.
  • Health and conduct: The Foreigner Physical Examination Form for study exceeding six months and a non-criminal-record certificate. Medical results are valid for six months; police certificates are generally expected within six months before submission.
  • Additional evidence: Required admission or supervisor documents, relevant portfolios or research outputs, and legal-guardian documentation for applicants under 18.
  • Application records: Submitted CSC and receiver forms, plus any required institutional fee receipt.

Your China scholarship study plan should connect previous preparation with the proposed degree. For research study, the research-proposal guide helps you develop a focused question, methods and feasible work. If using AI, follow application restrictions and retain responsibility for every claim and reference; our AI-assisted proposal guide explains that approach.

Give referees your CV, transcript and proposed work so their letters contain specific evidence. The recommendation-letter guide and templates support that task, while the Foreigner Physical Examination Form guide explains the medical process. Missing sections, signatures, hospital stamps or a properly sealed photograph can invalidate the medical form.

Prepare academic records and referee requests early; schedule short-validity health and police documents around submission. Keep separate final files for each receiver to prevent inconsistent names, programme choices or proposals.

08 How do you Submit Type A and Type B CSC China-Scholarship applications?

Submit your Chinese Government Scholarship application through the authorized receiver and the CSC system. The receiving authority or university assesses and recommends applicants; the Campus China scholarship application form is part of that process.

  1. Choose the funded degree and application receiver. Explore official Campus China scholarship and university information, then find the 2027 call for your exact degree and major. Type A CSC candidates use the named dispatching authority; Type B candidates use the university’s procedure.
  2. Complete admission prerequisites. Obtain required supervision or pre-admission evidence at the prescribed stage. Some universities assess admission first; others need the CSC form in the initial university file. Undergraduates register through the official CSCA website and arrange the required results alongside their language evidence.
  3. Complete the CSC scholarship form. Register in the official CSC application system, enter personal and education records, select the prescribed category and use the correct agency number. Type A uses the authority’s code; Type B uses the university’s code. The current call controls the number you enter.
  4. Upload and submit. Match the major, language, study period and institution to your admission records, and verify the displayed agency name. Submit rather than leaving a draft, then download the completed form.
  5. Finish the receiver’s separate application. Submit its form and documents, upload the CSC form where requested, pay any applicable official fee and complete referee requirements. CSC submission alone does not replace this stage. Send paper copies only when instructed.
  6. Respond to assessment. Monitor your email and application accounts, correct document problems and attend required interviews on time. Retain submission numbers, completed forms and payment records.

For the Type A CSC scholarship programme, university preferences follow the dispatching authority’s instructions. The final Type B CSC application names your single selected university. If you withdraw a form for correction before processing, resubmit it after editing; a withdrawn application is inactive.

You can manage this process yourself. Official university charges are separate from consultancy fees, and no intermediary can guarantee a Government of China scholarship award.

09 When does Admission become a Confirmed CSC scholarship award?

Admission, nomination and final CSC funding approval are separate decisions. A professor’s agreement to issue acceptance letter is good to score admission at Chinese university. Whereas, if university nominates you to ministry of education of China for China Scholarship Council’s high level postgrad CSC scholarship program then you will receive complete hard copy of admission documents and award letter of CSC scholarship on your mailing address before June 2027.

Chinese Government Scholarship selectors assess preparation, programme fit and development potential. Use relevant school subjects for bachelor’s study, projects or professional direction for a master’s, and a focused research question for a PhD. Our CSC scholarship competitiveness guide explains how to strengthen that evidence.

10 Read Chinese Government Scholarship FAQs before you Apply

Can students from any country apply for Chinese Government Scholarships?

The general CSC eligibility rule is non-Chinese citizenship. Individual Type A and Type B calls can restrict nationality or nomination eligibility, so the actual scholarship conditions determine whether you qualify.

Can I apply for a CSC scholarship while completing my current qualification?

Yes, where the call accepts expected-graduation or official student-status evidence. You must still complete the qualification by the required date and produce original documents at registration.

Can I explore several Chinese universities for a Type B CSC scholarship?

You can pursue preliminary screening where university rules permit it. The final CSC process still allows one Type B application per academic year, with restrictions on competing nominations.

Does every degree at a CSC university receive full China government scholarship funding?

No. Universities also offer self-funded degrees and programmes outside particular CSC calls. Match your exact major, level and teaching language to the funded award.

Can I apply for Chinese Government Scholarships without publications or work experience?

Neither is universally required for every CSC degree. Research departments may request research evidence, while some professional courses require work experience; the programme’s conditions apply.

Are CSC scholarship applications free because the degree is fully funded?

Not automatically. Institutional processing and undergraduate entrance-test fees can remain payable, while fee waivers vary by route and university. Consultancy charges are separate from these official costs.

11 What are the Chinese Government Scholarship deadlines for 2027?

Start preparing your Chinese Government Scholarship application now, while Chinese universities announce and open their individual 2027–2028 admission rounds. Across the 200-plus CSC university network, opening dates vary, but you can begin shortlisting programmes and preparing your documents before formal applications open.

Get your academic records, English proficiency certificate or required language results, recommendations and study plan ready. For research-based master’s and PhD programmes, contact suitable professors to discuss supervision and request an acceptance letter where the university requires or accepts one. This preparation can help you submit a complete application when your chosen round begins.

When a university announces its next intake, explore the CSC High-Level Postgraduate Scholarship, eligible provincial government scholarships and the university’s independent scholarships. These opportunities may have separate application forms, eligibility conditions and deadlines, so applying for one does not automatically enter you for the others.

Visit the DAADScholarship.com homepage regularly for new China scholarship announcements. We will continue publishing university openings with their available programmes, funding, application steps and deadlines to help you identify suitable opportunities.

Submit your Campus China scholarship form and the required university application by the deadlines specified for your selected route. Some university and nomination deadlines fall well before the end of March. Prepare early and apply when your chosen call opens, rather than waiting for a presumed nationwide closing date.

  1. First, thanks for the additional details! My question is: are there any universities that offer a degree in Dental Medicine? If so, what are their requirements?

    1. Hi Efrata Abiy—thanks for your question. Yes, some Chinese universities offer dental-related degree programs, but the exact degree title and route can vary by school (e.g., undergraduate dental medicine or postgraduate dentistry programs). For CSC high-level applications (2027–2028), you should check universities against your eligible degree route and use the program-specific instructions for that category. The key is matching your prior qualification and required documents, and confirming whether they accept your English evidence in place of IELTS (if applicable) based on the university’s stated entry requirements.
