The Chinese Government Scholarship–High-Level Postgraduate Program supports graduate study through Chinese government funding. At CUG Wuhan, the important preparation starts before you upload your application: which programme fits your background, and which supervisor can support your proposed work? This guide connects those decisions with the documents and submission route you need.

CUG Wuhan 2027: your funded postgraduate route
Status: Open for the 2027 intake.
Who qualifies: Non-Chinese master’s and PhD applicants meeting CUG’s academic and age requirements.
Funding: Tuition, on-campus accommodation, stipend and insurance support.
English: IELTS, TOEFL or accepted alternative evidence, including previous English-medium study.
Application fee: Not specified in the scholarship notice.
Timing: Secure supervisor support before submission; see the application deadline.
Official information checked: 18 October 2026.

01. Who can apply, and what can you study at CUG Wuhan?

Non-Chinese applicants need a bachelor’s degree and must be under 35 for master’s study, or a master’s degree and must be under 40 for PhD study. Good health, a valid foreign passport and a clean criminal record also matter. The China scholarship age requirements guide explains why limits from other funding schemes should not be transferred to this call.

CUG’s advertised English-taught master’s options can be grouped as follows. Use these groups to identify an academic direction, then choose the exact programme rather than applying to a broad subject label.

Your direction English-taught master’s options
Earth, resources and water Geology; Geological Resources and Geological Engineering, including mineral exploration and geological engineering directions; Environmental Science and Engineering; Groundwater Science and Engineering; Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering
Technology and materials Computer Science and Technology; Control Science and Engineering; Geospatial Science and Technology; Materials Science and Engineering
Business and public affairs Business Administration; Applied Economics; Public Administration

CUG states that all its PhD programmes can be conducted in English. Explore the university’s master’s programme information or doctoral programme information to connect your intended degree with the relevant department.

For English-taught study, CUG lists IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 80, previous English-medium instruction proof, or other English evidence such as Duolingo; no Duolingo minimum is specified on the scholarship page. Chinese-taught applicants need HSK 4 or above with at least 200 points. Our CSC IELTS and English-certificate guide explains the distinction between an accepted alternative and having no language requirement.

02. What does the CUG CSC Scholarship cover?

The award covers tuition and on-campus accommodation, with a monthly stipend of RMB 3,000 for master’s students or RMB 3,500 for doctoral students, plus RMB 800 yearly insurance support. Build your personal budget around that package; avoid assuming that travel, document preparation or family expenses are included.

My recommendation is to compare research fit before comparing university names. Our guide to CSC scholarship competitiveness explains why meeting entry conditions does not guarantee funding. If you are still building a shortlist, use the comparison of academic requirements at 32 Chinese universities to compare published rules rather than assume CUG has a low-GPA waiver.

03. How should you prepare and submit your CUG Wuhan application?

Prepare supervisor support first, then submit through the CSC system using Type B and CUG’s agency number 10491. The broader CSC 2027–2028 application guide provides route context; CUG’s current instructions determine this application.

  1. Find a relevant CUG supervisor. The checklist requires the signed CUG Supervisor’s Recommendation Form for Excellent International Students. I would prioritise this contact because a thoughtful academic exchange takes longer than uploading scans. Use our professor-matching and acceptance-letter email guide to explain your research fit, while requesting CUG’s specified form.
  2. Develop your study plan. CUG specifies at least 1,000 words/characters in English or Chinese; doctoral applicants need their intended CUG supervisor’s signature. The China scholarship study-plan guide helps connect your preparation, objectives and timetable. For a research-focused project, the research-proposal writing guide can help you develop the question and methods within the required plan.
  3. Assemble the supporting documents. Include your passport, highest diploma or pre-graduation certificate, complete highest-degree transcripts, language evidence and two letters from professors or associate professors. Add the supervisor form, study plan and relevant achievements. Documents outside English or Chinese need notarized translations.
  4. Prepare recent medical and police documents. Both the physical examination and non-criminal record must fall within the preceding six months. Follow the Foreigner Physical Examination Form guide to review signatures, stamps and supporting reports before scanning.
  5. Complete Campus China. Register through the official CSC application portal, select Type B, enter 10491, complete the form and upload your documents. Our CSC agency-number directory explains how university codes identify the receiving institution.
  6. Submit and retain your application record. CUG’s published scholarship procedure specifies CSC submission; it does not list an additional university-portal submission. Monitor your account and email for any subsequent CUG instructions.

04. What should CUG applicants clarify before submitting?

Can final-year students apply?

The checklist accepts a pre-graduation certificate. This supports an application before your final diploma is issued; it does not remove the requirement to obtain the qualification needed for enrolment.

Do the two academic references replace supervisor support?

No. CUG lists two academic recommendation letters and its signed supervisor recommendation form separately. Prepare both document types rather than treating one as a substitute for the other.

Is the application definitely free?

The published High-Level Postgraduate notice does not state an application fee or an explicit fee waiver. For any fee-related instruction, contact CUG admissions at [email protected] before making a payment.

05. When does the CUG Wuhan CSC Scholarship 2027 close?

The last date to apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship–High-Level Postgraduate Program offered by China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) is 28 February 2027. The application period runs from 16 October 2026 to 28 February 2027, according to the official CUG 2027 scholarship notice.

No closing hour is stated. I recommend submitting ahead of the final day so a missing signature or unreadable scan does not become your last-minute obstacle.
