CoDaS Europe Scholarships 2027 in Communications and Data Science: Process of Application
Want to work where wireless networks, artificial intelligence and data science meet? The CoDaS Erasmus Mundus master’s has announced its autumn 2027 admissions window. This English-taught, two-year programme takes you through two European universities, with competitive scholarships available alongside admission.
The important question is which scholarship you receive: an Erasmus Mundus award supports living costs, while a standard CoDaS scholarship covers the programme fee. This guide helps you choose a study direction, understand that funding difference and prepare for the application window.
Find your route into CoDaS
1. Which CoDaS specialisation fits your plans?
CoDaS suits applicants who want to combine communications engineering with computing and data-driven systems. It offers a double degree from the two universities where you complete the required studies. Think about the problem you want to investigate: smarter networks, secure connected devices or machine learning for automated systems.
The official CoDaS programme structure maps the second-year directions below. First-year study is available at Aalto, Técnico Lisboa, TU Braunschweig or UPC; Grenoble is a second-year destination.
| University and country | Second-year focus |
|---|---|
| Aalto University, Finland | Communications, automation and machine learning |
| Grenoble INP-UGA, France | Communications, data science and security |
| Técnico Lisboa, Portugal | Communications and data science |
| TU Braunschweig, Germany | Communications, machine learning, medical informatics and biomedicine |
| UPC BarcelonaTech, Spain | Communications, 5G/6G, Internet of Things and data science |
My recommendation is to shortlist specializations by the technical work you want to do, then connect that choice to your strongest undergraduate project. A concrete connection is more useful than simply saying you want to study in Europe.
As Aalto’s CoDaS overview explains, the programme develops expertise in wireless systems, cybersecurity, data analytics, AI and related technologies. These skills can support technical careers or further doctoral study; the degree does not guarantee employment.
2. What do the CoDaS scholarships cover?
The Erasmus Mundus scholarship covers the €8,000 annual programme fee and provides €1,400 monthly for up to 24 months. The standard CoDaS scholarship waives the fee for two years. A possible CoDaS Premium award adds intake-dependent monthly support; its 2027 amount is not published.
The programme fee includes tuition, insurance, summer school and conference participation. Housing, personal expenses, international travel and visa or residence-permit costs are excluded from that fee. Read the official scholarship and fee conditions when comparing an offer with your budget.
I would prioritise a realistic monthly budget before accepting a fee-only award. Include rent deposits and relocation expenses as well as ordinary living costs; a tuition waiver alone does not answer whether you can afford the move.
Previous EMJM scholarship recipients cannot receive another EMJM award. Nationality caps also apply: a 10% cap across the funded action for Erasmus Mundus scholarships, and up to two same-nationality recipients per admission for CoDaS/CoDaS Premium. Enrolled students with disabilities may qualify for additional needs-related contributions.

3. Who Qualifies and how do You Apply?
Applicants need relevant bachelor’s-level preparation in communications, computing or closely related engineering. Expected GPAs include Bangladesh 3.70/4, India 8/10 or 80%, and Pakistan 3.60/4; other countries are assessed individually. University-specific prerequisites apply.
Use your transcript to identify evidence of mathematical reasoning, programming and network-related knowledge. I recommend preparing a short project-to-course map for your own use: it will help you explain your academic fit consistently across your written and video materials.
- Use the CoDaS application link published on its admissions page when the window opens; submit one form and request scholarships there.
- Rank university preferences and enter a motivation letter of up to 500 words.
- Upload your transcript, degree certificate if completed, identification, CV, course descriptions and English evidence, with required translations.
- Provide an accessible motivation-video link: maximum one minute and 100 MB. Recommendations are optional supporting evidence.
CoDaS has its own admissions process, so follow its application route rather than assuming a general university master’s application covers it.

4. CoDaS funding and mobility Questions
Does an admission offer guarantee a scholarship?
No; admission and funding are different outcomes. Base your decision on the award explicitly confirmed in your offer, and treat any possible funding upgrade as uncertain.
Can I use an English-medium degree instead of IELTS?
Only under specified country/residence or consortium-certificate rules. A generic medium-of-instruction letter is insufficient; Duolingo and EF SET are not accepted.
Can I study in a country where I already live?
Residence can affect your mobility arrangement. The programme requires study in two countries other than your starting country of residence, potentially requiring the thesis semester in another country.
