The application starts with finding the right supervisor. SHOU requires preliminary consent and a supervisor-signed research proposal, so completing an online form alone will not be enough. Here is what to study, who qualifies and how to prepare your submission.

Is the SHOU CSC scholarship right for you?

Status and route: Open; CSC High-Level Postgraduate Programme, Type B.

Applicants: Non-Chinese citizens seeking a master’s or doctoral degree.

Funding: Tuition, double-room accommodation, living stipend and comprehensive medical insurance. The current notice does not specify the stipend amount.

Application cost: RMB 400, non-refundable.

Official information checked: 20 October 2026. Closing date appears in the final section.

1. Which subjects can you study at Shanghai Ocean University?

SHOU offers three-year master’s and four-year doctoral programmes under this CSC call. Use the subject and teaching language together to narrow your choice before approaching a supervisor.

Degree Available subjects and language
Master’s Aquaculture; Biology; Fishery Resources; Marine Science; Food Science and Engineering; Fishery Economics and Management; Machinery. The list indicates English or Chinese. Applied Economics and Electronic Information are specifically marked Chinese-taught.
PhD Aquaculture; Biology; Fishery Resources; Marine Science; Food Science and Engineering; Fishery Economics and Management. English-taught.

2. Who qualifies for the SHOU CSC Scholarship 2027?

You need the required previous degree, GPA above 3.0 and compliance with SHOU’s age limits. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health with a personal passport.

  • Master’s: Bachelor’s degree or above; no more than 30 years old.
  • PhD: Master’s degree or above; no more than 35 years old, research experience and achievements, and at least one published scientific paper.
  • English-taught study: IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 80 or above, obtained within the previous two years; equivalent evidence may be submitted.
  • Chinese-taught study: HSK 5 with a score above 180, obtained within the previous two years.

The notice also requires agreement to graduation conditions involving HSK 3 and SCI publications. I would discuss those expectations with your prospective supervisor while shaping your project.

3. Which documents should SHOU applicants prepare?

Prepare your academic evidence and supervisor-approved proposal together. Your file needs a passport valid beyond 1 March 2028, photograph, degrees and transcripts, language evidence, CV, signed research proposal and a three-minute introduction video in your programme’s teaching language.

Two recommendations must come from associate professors or higher, including one from your previous supervisor, and be dated after 1 September 2026. You also need a physical-examination record valid for six months, a non-criminal record and financial-support evidence. Follow the notice’s translation and notarization rules for non-English/non-Chinese records.

My recommendation is to request academic records and references early, then time your Foreigner Physical Examination so it remains valid when needed.

4. How do you apply for Shanghai Ocean University’s CSC scholarship?

Submit to both SHOU and CSC after securing supervisor support. The university’s official 2027 application guide includes its supervisor directory and proposal template.

  1. Select a listed programme, contact a suitable SHOU supervisor, obtain preliminary consent and develop a proposal for their signature.
  2. Complete your university application through the SHOU application portal, upload the required documents and pay the application fee.
  3. Submit the scholarship application through Campus China, using Type B and agency number 10264.
  4. Monitor your email and SHOU account, attend the interview when invited and follow subsequent university instructions. SHOU recommends shortlisted candidates; CSC decides the final scholarship outcome.

If you are comparing routes, the CSC 2027–2028 application guide explains the wider process.

5. What else should SHOU scholarship applicants know?

Can final-year students apply?

Yes. Submit a pending-graduation certificate and current transcripts, then provide final documents promptly after receiving them. Originals are required at registration.

Is IELTS compulsory for everyone?

No. SHOU permits equivalent English evidence and a signed declaration for qualifying native speakers. The notice does not give every applicant an automatic English-medium certificate waiver.

Does meeting the minimum GPA guarantee a scholarship?

No. SHOU selects candidates for CSC review. Read the CSC competitiveness guide to understand why eligibility and selection are different.

6. What is the Shanghai Ocean University CSC application deadline?

The last date to apply for the Shanghai Ocean University CSC High-Level Postgraduate Scholarship 2027 is 1 February 2027.

Choose your programme, identify a suitable supervisor and start the proposal discussion now. That academic preparation is the part you cannot complete simply by uploading documents near the deadline.
