ME3-4S Europe Scholarship 2027: Study Environment and Energy Studies Fully Funded

The ME3-4S Erasmus Mundus scholarship is new fully funded master’s scholarship opportunity for international students interested in environment, energy and sustainable development. IMT Atlantique confirms that the new programme has secured European funding, with its first intake scheduled for September 2027. Its full name is Management and Engineering of Environment and Energy for a Sustainable Future.

For graduates who want to connect technical solutions with real-world decisions, the appeal goes beyond studying abroad: this programme builds on ME3+’s combination of engineering and management through international study.

The scholarship route also addresses a practical barrier that tuition discounts leave behind: financing living costs and mobility. ME3-4S is announced, but its detailed student call is still forthcoming; the guidance below separates confirmed programme news from the standard Erasmus Mundus funding framework.

ME3-4S scholarship: your preparation brief

Timeline: See the launch and intake dates.
Verified: 22 October 2026.

Five European countries behind your ME3-4S journey

ME3-4S brings together a university network spanning France, Hungary, Italy, Sweden and Germany. The successor programme’s launch announcement names the institutions below. They show the international scope of the programme; your actual semester destinations will depend on the new study routes.

🇫🇷 FRANCE
IMT Atlantique

Nantes

French institution announcing the successor programme.

🇭🇺 HUNGARY
Budapest University of Technology and Economics

Budapest

Hungarian university in the announced collaboration.

🇮🇹 ITALY
Free University of Bozen-Bolzano & University of Trento

Bolzano and Trento

Two Italian universities connected through energy-engineering collaboration.

🇸🇪 SWEDEN
University of Borås

Borås

Swedish university named in the launch announcement.

🇩🇪 GERMANY
Leibniz University Hannover

Hannover

German university named in the successor programme’s collaboration.

Will you study in all five countries? That is not confirmed. These cards describe the university network, rather than a compulsory five-country itinerary. The new website must establish the semester sequence, route choices and degrees awarded.

The predecessor combined renewable energy, resource recovery, and smart-city or industrial applications with management. That combination is useful if you want to understand both a technical solution and the decisions needed to deliver it. ME3-4S will introduce new options, so choose your eventual route from its updated curriculum.

02
What does the fully funded scholarship cover?

Erasmus Mundus scholarships combine participation-cost coverage with support for living and mobility expenses. Under current EMJM rules, scholarship holders cannot be charged tuition or other mandatory participation costs. Student support is calculated at €1,400 per month for the eligible programme duration.

  • Tuition: No tuition charge for Erasmus Mundus scholarship holders.
  • Monthly support: A contribution towards living, travel, visa and settling-in costs.
  • Insurance: Full insurance coverage forms part of the programme’s institutional support.

These are EU framework rules, rather than a published ME3-4S award letter. Confirm the funded duration, payment schedule and scholarship places in its forthcoming call. Travel and visa costs fall within the scholarship contribution; separate unlimited reimbursements should not be assumed.

I would keep a small arrival budget where possible and ask when the first payment is released. That helps you plan deposits and travel before monthly support begins.

03
What can you prepare before eligibility is published?

Start with your degree evidence and academic direction; wait for ME3-4S to confirm its exact prerequisites. Erasmus Mundus generally accepts bachelor’s graduates and final-year students who graduate before the master’s begins.

I would organise the following now as preparation, rather than treat it as an official upload checklist.

Prepare now Confirm in the new call
Transcripts, degree or expected-graduation evidence Accepted disciplines, prerequisites and grade thresholds
CV, project examples and potential referees Required references, statement format and selection criteria
Existing English-language evidence Accepted tests, minimum scores, validity and exemptions

For your motivation draft, connect one problem you have worked on with a skill you need next. A waste-recovery project, for example, could explain your interest in combining process design with economic assessment. This is editorial advice, not a published scoring rule.

04
How should you apply for ME3-4S?

Use the new consortium application route when it is officially released. The present stage supports preparation rather than a complete submission.

  1. Start with the official announcement. Follow IMT Atlantique’s ME3-4S launch notice to the new website when available.
  2. Check the scholarship call. Confirm eligibility, routes, documents, deadlines and whether scholarship consideration needs a separate request. Compare its terms with the official EMJM funding rules.
  3. Prepare the required uploads. Follow the new call’s language, translation and certification instructions. Confirm which evidence is required at submission and which may follow later.
  4. Submit to the consortium. Use only its published portal, complete scholarship-related fields and retain confirmation. The EU student guidance confirms applications go directly to the programme.
  5. Check both decisions. Admission and a scholarship award are separate outcomes. Read the funding offer before committing to a place.

The standalone PBPE/PM3E application and archived ME3+ instructions should not substitute for the forthcoming ME3-4S call.

Questions worth settling before submission

Does everyone admitted receive full funding?

No. Erasmus Mundus scholarships are competitive. Admission alone does not confirm funding. Rely on a scholarship only after receiving written confirmation of the award and its terms.

Can I use the old ME3+ IELTS requirement?

Do not assume it carries over. ME3-4S is a successor programme, and its own call must confirm accepted tests and exemptions.

Can a previous EMJM scholar receive another scholarship?

Current EMJM rules exclude previous EMJM scholarship recipients from another EMJM scholarship. Check any admission-only options separately with the consortium.

ME3-4S scholarship 2027: launch and deadline

The ME3-4S website is scheduled to become available in November 2026, with the first intake beginning in September 2027. IMT Atlantique has not yet published the scholarship application closing date, opening day or closing time and timezone.

Prepare your academic records and motivation outline now, then check the new call for its exact document and scholarship deadlines. An old ME3+ deadline cannot establish the last date to apply for the ME3-4S Erasmus Mundus scholarship.
