The University of Otago | Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka is delighted to announce the International Partnership Scholarship for international students wishing to pursue their undergraduate studies in New Zealand. This scholarship is designed to celebrate and welcome international students as valued members of the University community. The scholarship provides a substantial financial benefit to students coming to study through one of the University’s articulation partner agreements.
Scholarship Benefits
The International Partnership Scholarship offers a generous amount of $10,000, which is applied as a tuition fee credit. For students commencing their studies in Semester 1 (February 2025), the full scholarship amount will be credited towards their tuition fees.
Those starting in Semester 2 (July 2025) will receive half the scholarship funds ($5,000) in their first semester, with the remaining half being applied in Semester 1 of the following year. This scholarship provides a significant reduction in the financial burden associated with international study.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the International Partnership Scholarship, applicants must meet the following general and specific criteria:
General Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must have completed secondary (high) school or an equivalent qualification from an approved institution that grants University Entrance outside of New Zealand.
- Applicants must intend to enroll or have already enrolled in a full-time, degree-level, undergraduate program at the University of Otago | Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka.
Specific Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be planning to undertake a minimum of four semesters at the University of Otago | Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka.
- Applicants must study on campus throughout the duration of their studies.
- Applicants must be applying to study through one of the University’s approved articulation partner agreements.
Application Process
Eligible students must indicate their interest in being considered for international scholarships at the University of Otago when submitting their application for study through the student management system (eVision) as per this scholarship call letter https://www.otago.ac.nz/study/scholarships/international-partnership-scholarship.
English Language Requirements
International students must meet the University of Otago’s English language requirements. Acceptable English language tests and their required scores include:
- IELTS: An overall score of 6.0 with no individual band score lower than 5.5.
- TOEFL iBT: A minimum total score of 80 with at least 20 in Writing.
- Cambridge English Qualifications (C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency): A score of 176 with no less than 169 in any paper.
- Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: An overall score of 58 with no communicative skills score below 50.
