American Summer Fellowship 2025 Announced

Applications are now open for the 2025 American Summer Fellowship in Community Archives, an in-person and remote fellowship designed for undergraduate juniors, seniors, and master’s students passionate about community-based archival work. This eight-week program offers hands-on training with the South Asian American Digital Archive (SAADA), a pioneering organization advancing community-driven archival practices.

About the Fellowship

The program, supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, provides an immersive experience for fellows to contribute to SAADA’s mission of preserving South Asian American stories. Participants will gain practical experience in archival work, attend professional development events, and develop their own community-focused archival collections.

Fellowship Benefits

Fellowship Details

Dates: July 7, 2025 – August 29, 2025

    • In-person: July 7 – August 15, 2025 (Philadelphia, PA)
    • Remote: August 15 – August 29, 2025, including attendance at the Society of American Archivists Annual Meeting in Anaheim, CA (August 24–27, 2025).

Responsibilities:

    • Create an archival collection centered on a community of personal connection.
    • Enhance SAADA’s archive through digitization, metadata creation, transcription, research, and written introductions.
    • Support SAADA in organizing a virtual event on themes related to community-based archives.
    • Lead discussions, document experiences, and present findings to academic audiences.

Eligibility

  • Open to U.S.-based students with valid work authorization.
  • Applicants must be:
    • Undergraduate students entering or currently in their junior or senior year.
    • Graduate students entering or currently enrolled in a master’s program.
  • No formal archival training is required, but a strong interest in South Asian American history and community-based archival work is essential.
