Canada Inviting 10,000 Families for Parent and Grandparent Visa Sponsorship in July 2025
Ottawa, July 16, 2025 – Here’s the heartwarming update so many families around the world have been waiting for: Canada’s Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) is officially reopening for its 2025 intake, and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is set to issue invitations starting July 28, 2025.
This intake round will unfold over approximately two (2) weeks, during which up to 10,000 applicants will be invited to submit complete sponsorship applications to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada as permanent residents.
Were You in the 2020 Pool? It’s Time to Check Your Email!
The IRCC will not be accepting new interest-to-sponsor forms this year. Instead, invitations will be sent to individuals who submitted an interest-to-sponsor form in 2020 and have not yet received an invitation. So, if you applied back then, it’s time to check your inbox—and don’t forget your spam or junk folders. Your golden ticket might just be waiting there!
How to Apply if Invited?
If you’re among the selected potential sponsors, you’ll be able to submit your full application electronically using either the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal, depending on your situation. The application process has been streamlined and digitized for your convenience.
What If You’re Not Invited This Year?
Don’t worry—Canada still offers a fantastic alternative. If you’re not invited this time, your loved ones may still qualify for the Super Visa, which allows multiple entries for up to 10 years. Even better, Super Visa holders can stay in Canada for up to 5 years at a time, with the option to extend their stay for another 2 years—all without leaving the country.
This makes the Super Visa one of the most family-friendly options for long-term visits, especially for those not selected in the PGP draw.
Why This Matters?
Family reunification is a core value in Canadian immigration policy, and the Parents and Grandparents Program remains one of the most anticipated avenues for keeping families together. If you’re hoping to bring your parents or grandparents to live with you in Canada permanently, this is a major opportunity.
For those curious about past trends, IRCC has published a full Parents and Grandparents Program Intake Report (2020–2022), now available on their website.
