Edinburgh Futures Institute Visiting Fellowship 2025/2026 Announced
The Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI) is inviting applications for its prestigious Visiting Fellowship Programme 2025/2026, offering an unparalleled opportunity for international researchers to engage in interdisciplinary research within a vibrant academic community.
Following the success of the inaugural programme, EFI continues to seek visionary scholars who are eager to tackle complex global challenges and contribute to shaping better futures.
Fellowship Benefits
Successful applicants will receive:
- Monthly bursary of £1,500 during the fellowship period (3–6 months).
- Reimbursement of travel and visa costs, if applicable.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must hold an open-ended academic position at an institution.
- Research must align with EFI’s key focus areas:
- Creative Industries & Digital Humanities
- Ethics of Data and Artificial Intelligence
- Financial Services & Fintech
- Future Infrastructure
- Public Sector (prevention, data civics, participatory democracy, governance)
- Tourism & Festivals
- Special consideration will be given to candidates from Low or Middle-Income Countries or underrepresented groups.
- Applications will be evaluated based on research experience and career stage.
Programme Highlights
Visiting Fellows will join an interdisciplinary ecosystem, contributing to EFI’s mission to foster collaborative, data-driven, and innovative research. As part of the fellowship, fellows will engage with EFI’s diverse research community through seminars, teaching, and collaborative projects.
The programme has already demonstrated success, as highlighted by Professor Ivan Diaz-Rayney, who utilized the fellowship to explore climate finance topics, resulting in interdisciplinary projects on river flooding and financial stability in the UK.
