Harvard Law School EPLF 2026 Fellowship Seeking Applications

Harvard Law School’s prestigious Environmental & Energy Law Program (EELP) has officially opened applications for its 2026–2027 Legal Fellowship, offering one of the most impactful early-career opportunities in the realm of environmental and energy law. This full-time, in-person fellowship based in Cambridge, Massachusetts offers a unique launchpad into the legal aspects of climate action, sustainability, and public welfare law.

What Does the Fellowship Offer?

Legal Fellows at EELP play a pivotal role in shaping policy and legal thought around environmental protection and energy transition. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Hands-on legal research and policy analysis on cutting-edge environmental and energy law issues.
  • Opportunities to collaborate with EELP attorneys, staff, and faculty and mentor Harvard Law School students.
  • Produce and publish white papers, blog posts, and potentially articles in law journals or external publications.

The fellowship may be renewed for a second (2nd) year, based on performance and funding availability.


Eligibility Criteria

Required: A J.D. earned within the last three (03) years (as of the start of the fellowship in Fall 2026).

Preferred:

    • Background or coursework in environmental law.
    • Demonstrated passion for climate and energy justice.
    • Strong legal research and writing skills for both academic and general audiences.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
    • Public speaking and stakeholder engagement experience is a bonus.

Programs and Environment: As part of EELP at Harvard Law School, fellows contribute to a dynamic and mission-driven team that:

    • Develops legal strategies to support deep decarbonization and public health protection.
    • Engages directly with policymakers, industry leaders, environmental NGOs, and the media.
