The Humboldt Residency Programme 2025 is set to bring together visionary thinkers to delve into one of humanity’s most pressing topics: “The Future of Food.” Organized annually, this 6-week residency based in Brandenburg/Berlin offers participants a chance to collaborate, share knowledge, and generate transformative ideas aimed at addressing global food challenges.
The 2025 residency focuses on how technological innovations, ethical practices, and evolving social norms shape the global food landscape. Participants will engage in daily interactive sessions, workshops, and dialogues designed to foster creative solutions and bring about meaningful change.

- Monthly Allowance: Financial support during the six-week residency in Berlin/Brandenburg.
- Travel Allowance: Coverage of travel expenses to and from Germany.
- Accommodation: Housing is provided at Schloss Wiepersdorf (two weeks) and an aparthotel in Berlin (four weeks).
- Support for Families: Participants traveling with dependent family members receive family accommodation and assistance with childcare.
- Event Budget: Funding for organizing public engagement events and other creative outputs.
This unique experience is an opportunity for professionals to collaborate in an interdisciplinary setting and communicate their findings to wider audiences through innovative formats, such as debates, workshops, blogs, and more.
Who Can Apply?
The programme invites applications from a diverse mix of participants, ensuring a rich blend of perspectives and expertise. Eligible applicants include:
- Humboldt Foundation Alumni: Three participants who have previously received a fellowship or award from the Foundation but are not involved in any ongoing Humboldt programmes.
- Junior Researchers: Three individuals pursuing a PhD or holding a PhD completed within the last four years, not currently based in Germany.
- Civil Society, Journalism, Arts, or Social Entrepreneurship Professionals: Five participants not affiliated with academic institutions.
Applicants should demonstrate a connection to the 2025 theme through their work or engagement. Creative and innovative approaches are particularly encouraged.

Programme Schedule
- June 2025: Virtual kick-off meeting.
- 4 – 15 August 2025: Two-week residency at Schloss Wiepersdorf.
- 15 August – 12 September 2025: Four-week residency in Berlin.
- September – November 2025: Remote finalization of outputs.
- November 2025: Virtual wrap-up event.
