Japanese Government Teacher Training MEXT Scholarship 2025

The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) is offering scholarships for distinguished international students who aspire to study in Japan under two specialized categories: Japanese Studies Students and Teacher Training Students. This prestigious opportunity allows scholars to deepen their expertise while immersing themselves in Japan’s rich academic and cultural environment.

The MEXT Scholarship for 2025 offers two specialized categories: Japanese Studies Students and Teacher Training Students, each designed to support distinguished international students in pursuing academic and cultural enrichment in Japan.

For Japanese Studies Students, the program provides a one-year study course focused on Japanese language and culture at a Japanese university. Applicants must be international nationals born between April 2, 1995, and April 1, 2007. They should be undergraduate students majoring in Japanese language or culture at a non-Japanese university and must have completed at least one year of Japanese studies by September 1, 2025. Successful candidates are required to return to their original university upon completing the program. As part of the application process, students must take a written Japanese exam and attend an interview.

The Teacher Training Students program is tailored for educators and includes training in educational methods, administration, specialized research, and Japanese language studies. Eligibility criteria require applicants to be international nationals born on or after April 2, 1990, and graduates of teacher training schools or universities. Additionally, they must have at least five years of teaching experience at elementary or secondary schools or teacher training institutions. Recipients are expected to return to their home country to resume teaching after completing the program. The application process involves written exams in Japanese and English, followed by an interview.
