Penn State Global has officially opened applications for the 2026 Penn State–Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Doctoral Research Scholarship, a high-impact international research opportunity hosted at India’s premier institution — IISc Bangalore.
This elite scholarship enables up to five selected Penn State doctoral students to engage in collaborative research and educational exchange with IISc in summer 2026. As part of a long-standing strategic partnership, this initiative deepens cross-border academic cooperation while offering students an unforgettable intercultural experience in India’s thriving tech metropolis, Bangalore.

Who Can Apply?
Eligible candidates must:
- Be enrolled Penn State doctoral students in good academic standing.
- Be committed to conducting research and educational collaborations with IISc and/or relevant Bangalore-based industries.
- Demonstrate evidence of joint academic planning between a Penn State and IISc faculty member.
What’s Required in the Application?
All applications must be submitted via InfoReady in a single PDF file, which should include:
Section 1: Cover Page

- Full name, citizenship, PSU ID and email
- Degree program and academic department
- Campus address and desired research dates
Section 2: Statement of Purpose

- No more than two double-spaced pages
- Outline your academic goals, collaborative activities with IISc, research timeline, and expected outcomes
Section 3: Faculty Letter of Support

- A recommendation letter from your direct faculty supervisor at Penn State
- It should articulate the value of this research stay and potential for joint research, publications, or conferences.
Application Timeline
The last date to apply for the Penn State–IISc Doctoral Research Scholarship 2026 is Monday, February 2, 2026.
Successful awardees will be notified by Monday, February 9, 2026.
Following acceptance:
- Students must register their travel with Penn State’s Global Safety Network.
- Travel arrangements must comply with the funder’s protocol.
- The $800 grant will be disbursed via LionPath upon arrival at IISc.
Additionally, participants will be required to submit a short summary report within 30 days after returning from India and may be asked to share insights through Penn State Global event.
