Poland Study Visa New Rules in Effect from July 1, 2025
Poland has just dropped a game-changing update that every international student—whether you’re from India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Brazil, or anywhere else outside Europe—needs to know before applying for a study visa. If you’re dreaming of studying in Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław, or Gdańsk, hold on tight. Your application process just got a major overhaul!
What Changed in Poland’s Student Visa Policy?
Effective July 1, 2025, Poland has officially implemented new visa rules under the Act on the Elimination of Irregularities in the Visa System. This reform targets first-year students entering undergraduate or long-cycle master’s programs—and introduces a critical new requirement.
If your high school diploma is NOT from:
- a European Union country,
- a OECD country (like the US, UK, Canada, Australia, South Korea, etc.),
- a European Free Trade Association (EFTA) country,
- the International Baccalaureate Organization (Geneva), or
- an internationally recognized school diploma under a treaty-recognized system.
Then you must obtain an additional document before applying for a Polish student visa.
What’s This New Mandatory Document?
You’ll need a “written information” certificate from NAWA (National Agency for Academic Exchange) confirming that your high school diploma qualifies you to study in Poland. Without this document, your visa will be automatically rejected—no exceptions.
This requirement is now mandatory for all new first-year applicants whose educational documents were issued outside the accepted countries or institutions listed above.
⚠️ Already have diploma recognition from a Polish Education Superintendent? Great news: you don’t need the NAWA document. You can submit that recognition certificate instead.
What the Consulate Will NOT Do?
Polish consulates around the world will not help you with getting your diploma recognized, nor will they contact NAWA or your university on your behalf. You’re on your own—so take this seriously!
Pro Tip: Start this process as early as possible! Delays in obtaining the “written information” can cost you your chance to study in Poland this year.
