Research Stay Scholarships 2025 by Max Planck for Senior Fellows, Postdocs, and PhD Applicants

Are you a researcher planning a research stay in Germany but concerned about funding? The Max Planck Institute (MPI) in Freiburg is currently accepting applications for its Research Stay Scholarship Program for 2025, offering financial support to help cover travel and accommodation costs for short-term visits.

This is a great opportunity for international researchers at various career stages to immerse themselves in a vibrant scientific community and collaborate with experts at MPI.

Who Can Apply?

The scholarship is open to:

  • Doctoral students from foreign institutions or from German institutions (if not working under MPI directors)
  • Postdoctoral researchers from foreign research institutions
  • Professors and experienced scientists from international institutions

Scholarship Benefits

The funding amount depends on the applicant’s academic status:

  • Doctoral students: up to €1,365/month
  • Postdocs: up to €2,500/month
  • Professors and experienced researchers: up to €3,000/month

In exceptional cases, higher grants may be awarded based on special circumstances. Note that the Institute generally does not reimburse travel costs, and proof of health insurance is required for all recipients.

Duration of Stay

Scholarships are typically awarded for 2 to 4 months, with a maximum duration of 6 months for doctoral researchers.

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • List of publications (1–3 academic publications in German or English language)
  • Research project description (5–10 pages)
  • For doctoral students: A detailed research plan (~10 pages) if no publications
  • Copies of Diploma and doctoral degree certificates (if applicable).
