This highly competitive, fully-funded, two-year fellowship is calling on bright minds from around the globe who have recently completed or are about to complete their PhD. With up to 10 fellowships available in this round, TUM invites you to take your research to the next level—right in the heart of Europe’s innovation capital.

Who Can Apply?

This fellowship is open to early-career researchers worldwide who:

• Have earned their PhD on or after March 1, 2022, or will finish within the next 12 months
• Are currently residing outside of Germany
• Have never earned their doctorate at TUM and are not currently working at TUM
• Wish to collaborate with a TUM host professor, institute, or lab in any research field

All academic disciplines are welcome! The only requirement? Your proposed project must align with your chosen TUM host’s research.

Two-Step Application Process for TUM Fellowship

Phase I (Now Open!)

• • Motivation Letter
  • CV (max 5 pages) with publication list
  • Best publication (PDF)
  • PhD certificate or confirmation of submission / supervisor’s letter
  • Reference letter from your PhD supervisor
  • Names of up to three (03) preferred TUM hosts.

No host letter is required yet—but you’ll identify and connect with your future host during the matchmaking phase.

Phase II

Only shortlisted candidates will move on to submit:

• • Full research proposal (max 4 pages)
  • Official Letter of Support from a confirmed TUM host (including 20% co-financing agreement).
