The University of Auckland Vaka Moana Scholarship is designed to support Pacific students embarking on their first year of undergraduate studies. This NZ scholarship aims to encourage greater participation of Pacific students in tertiary education by offering substantial financial assistance.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Vaka Moana Scholarship, applicants must:

1. Be a Pacific student: Defined as a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of Pacific descent.
2. Be a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident.
3. Be in their final year of secondary school or kura.
4. Intend to enroll full-time in an undergraduate degree, Tertiary Foundation Certificate, or Certificate in Health Sciences at the University of Auckland the following year.

Selection Criteria

The selection process considers:

• Academic Ability: Based on the previous year’s study results.
• School Endorsement: Quality of endorsement from the applicant’s school.
• Additional Criteria: Participation in cultural activities, leadership potential, achievements in academics, sports, or arts, and community recognition.
• Personal Circumstances: Financial need, first in family to attend university, refugee background, disability, care responsibilities, and rural area residency.
