Durham University 5k Scholarship Package Details
Durham University is offering 200 awards, each valued at £5,000, to outstanding international students. This amount will be applied as a tuition fee discount for a full-time, one-year taught master’s program. The scholarship is merit-based, recognizing students with exceptional academic achievements and strong potential for positive impact in their respective fields. These 200 scholarships will come with:
- The £5,000 scholarship is a tuition fee waiver, applied directly to the recipient’s tuition.
- The scholarship cannot be transferred to another academic year or converted into cash.
- Students from Bangladesh, India, Nigeria, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Vietnam who are eligible for the Durham International Scholarship (£5,000) can combine this funding with the Inspiring Excellence 5K Scholarship, receiving a total tuition fee discount of £10,000.
- The Durham International Scholarship is automatic and does not require an additional application, but students must apply for the Inspiring Excellence 5K Scholarship separately.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Durham Inspiring Excellence 5K Postgraduate Scholarship, applicants must:
- Apply for a full-time MSc, MA, LLM, or MDS program at Durham University (MBA programs are excluded).
- Begin their studies in September 2025.
- Hold an offer for a master’s program at Durham by:
- May 4, 2025 (1st Selection)
- June 8, 2025 (2nd Selection)
- Be classified as an overseas student for tuition purposes.
- Meet or exceed the entry requirements for their chosen program.
- Not be receiving any other Durham University scholarship, except the Durham International Scholarship (only for students from Bangladesh, India, Nigeria, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Vietnam).
- Be self-funded (not supported by external sponsorship or scholarships).
Ineligible Programs for Additional Funding
The Durham International Scholarship does not apply to:
- All Business School master’s and MBA programs.
- Second-year taught postgraduate programs.
- PGCE, PGCERT (Education), MA – Conservation of Archaeological and Museum Objects.
- Executive MSc in Behavioural Science.
- All research postgraduate programs.
- MSW (Social Work) and Graduate Diplomas.
Application Timeline
- March 14, 2025: Scholarship applications open.
- April 30, 2025 (1st Selection Deadline): Deadline to submit the Inspiring Excellence 5K Scholarship application form.
- May 12, 2025: Durham University announces 1st round selected scholars. Scholars must confirm their place within two weeks by paying their deposit.
- June 8, 2025 (2nd Selection Deadline): Deadline for 2nd round applications.
- June 16, 2025: Durham announces 2nd round scholars. Scholars must confirm their place within two weeks.
- July 7, 2025: Final announcement of waiting list scholars.
