École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) in Montréal is offering a dedicated scholarship competition for its own Bachelor’s students and graduates who want to continue into full-time research-based Master’s (Maîtrise avec mémoire) or PhD (Doctorat) studies at ÉTS. The aim is simple but powerful: allow selected students to focus fully on research and graduate studies by providing substantial financial support.
These scholarships are funded by donors through the ÉTS Service aux diplômés et à la philanthropie and are available to candidates with Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status, or international student status, provided they meet the academic and program-specific requirements.
What This Scholarship Offers?
The awards are designed as multi-year excellence scholarships:
- Master’s (Maîtrise avec mémoire): CAD $20,000 per year for up to 2 years
- Doctorate (PhD): CAD $25,000 per year for up to 3 years
In some circumstances, the duration of funding can be adjusted by the school. Importantly, the thesis supervisor also contributes to financing the award, so applicants must have a clearly defined research project and a committed supervisor in place.
If a recipient holds another competitive fellowship of CAD $10,000 or more, the amount of this ÉTS excellence scholarship will be reduced by half during any session in which that other award is active. This allows students to combine funding while avoiding excessive overlap.
Who Can Apply?
This scholarship is strictly targeted at ÉTS’s own Bachelor’s community. To be eligible, you must fall into one of the following situations:
- You are currently enrolled in an ÉTS Bachelor’s program or you already hold a Bachelor’s degree from ÉTS, and you plan to enroll full-time in:
- a Master’s program with thesis (Maîtrise avec mémoire), or
- a Doctorate (PhD) program at ÉTS;
OR
-
You already hold a Bachelor’s degree from ÉTS and have started the first semester of the Master’s or PhD program related to this scholarship application.
In all cases, strong academic performance is mandatory:
- For the Master’s scholarship, you must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.7/4.3 at the Bachelor’s level.
- For the Doctoral scholarship, you must have at least 3.7/4.3 (or equivalent) at the Bachelor’s level and at the Master’s level.
Exceptionally, holders of an ÉTS Bachelor’s degree who have already begun the second semester of the relevant graduate program may also apply, but they must provide a written explanation of why they did not apply in the previous session. The selection committee will decide whether to accept such late applications.
Research Project and Supervisor Requirement
This competition is only open to students with a defined research project and a thesis supervisor already confirmed. Applicants are expected to:
- Identify a suitable research topic aligned with ÉTS research areas.
- Secure a thesis supervisor who will guide the project and share financial responsibility for the award.
ÉTS recommends planning at least one year in advance and consulting school resources on how to find a research project and supervisor before applying.
Application Deadline and Winter 2026 Timeline
The application window for the ÉTS Scholarships for Master’s and PhD Studies for the Winter 2026 session officially opens on 5 January 2026 and will remain available until 26 January 2026, which is the final date to submit all required materials.
Applicants must ensure that both their online form and emailed supporting documents are completed before this deadline. Once the competition closes, ÉTS will review all submissions, and decisions will be released in March 2026, giving selected candidates sufficient time to prepare their enrollment plans and secure financial arrangements for the upcoming academic term.
