National Medical Fellowships Scholarships 2025

The National Medical Fellowships (NMF) has officially opened applications for its 2025 scholarships and awards, providing a significant financial opportunity for underrepresented medical students across the United States. With a combination of merit-based and need-based funding, these scholarships support aspiring medical professionals in their academic journey. The application period for the first cycle runs from January 13, 2025, to February 23, 2025.

General Eligibility and Application Requirements

To be considered for an NMF scholarship or award, applicants must provide the following documents as part of their online application:

Financial Documents

    • Student Aid Report (SAR) from the U.S. Department of Education
    • Documentation of Loan History (current and undergraduate) from the National Student Loan Data System

Academic Documents

    • Official Letter of Financial Aid Award Offer
    • Current Professional School Transcript

Personal Documents

    • Verification of U.S. Citizenship or lawful status (such as a birth certificate, U.S. passport, USCIS certificate of naturalization, voter’s registration card, or DACA approval letter)
    • Verification of Permanent Resident or Green Card status
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume
    • Letter(s) of Recommendation from a dean, faculty member, academic administrator, or community leader.

Most NMF scholarships require only one letter of recommendation, but some may require additional letters. Applicants should ensure they check the requirements of their chosen scholarship before submission.

Scholarship Opportunities in Cycle 1 (Deadline: February 23, 2025)

1# Dr. Nathalie Johnson Scholarship

    • Award Amount: $25,000 (Two awards available)
    • Eligibility: Medical students enrolled in an LCME-accredited, MD-granting medical school in Oregon.
    • Preference: Applicants must be from historically underrepresented backgrounds and demonstrate financial need.
    • Special Focus: Promoting health equity and reducing Black maternal mortality.
    • Eligible Programs: MD, MD/PhD
    • Eligible School Years: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th
    • Eligible Genders: Male, Female.

2# Dr. Theodore Quincy Miller Scholarship

    • Award Amount: $5,000 (One award available)
    • Eligibility: African American male medical students enrolled in an LCME-accredited U.S. MD-granting medical school.
    • Special Focus: Recognizing academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to service.
    • Eligible Programs: MD, MD/PhD
    • Eligible School Years: Any
    • Eligible School States: All
    • Eligible Gender: Male.

3# Dr. William Merrill Scholarship

    • Award Amount: $7,500 (One award available)
    • Eligibility: Underrepresented medical students enrolled in an accredited medical school.
    • Preference: Students attending a public medical school or an HBCU medical school.
    • Special Focus: Interest in healthcare issues affecting rural populations.
    • Eligible Programs: DO, DO/PhD, MD, MD/PhD
    • Eligible School Years: Any
    • Eligible School States: All
