TWAS-CNPq Postgraduate Fellowship 2025 in Brazil for Scientists from Developing Countries

The National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) in Brazil, in partnership with The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), has announced the TWAS-CNPq Postgraduate Fellowship Programme for young scientists from developing countries (excluding Brazil). This fellowship provides full-time PhD research opportunities at premier institutions in Brazil.

Programme Overview

The TWAS-CNPq Postgraduate Fellowships allow selected candidates to pursue PhD research at Brazilian research institutions for a duration of up to four (04) years. Candidates will enroll in their host institutions and must adhere to the respective academic calendar, with most programs conducted in Portuguese.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the fellowship, applicants must:

  • Hold a Master’s degree (MSc) in Natural Sciences.
  • Be a national of a developing country (excluding Brazil).
  • Not hold a visa for permanent or temporary residency in Brazil or a developed country.
  • Demonstrate intent to return to their home country upon completion of the fellowship.
  • Provide an official acceptance letter from a CAPES-listed Brazilian institution.
  • Show language proficiency in Portuguese, Spanish, or English.
  • Submit a detailed research plan agreed upon with the host supervisor.
  • Have an updated CV on CNPq’s Lattes Platform.
  • Be financially responsible for any accompanying family members.

  8. Mathematical Sciences
  9. Physics
  10. Social and Economic Sciences.

Candidates must submit their applications via the CNPq online platform following these steps:

  1. Create a CV Lattes at CNPq Lattes Platform.
  2. Submit the application via the Carlos Chagas Platform (Apply Here).
  3. Attach all required documents, including the Acceptance Letter from a CAPES-listed institution.
  4. Ensure all information is complete and submitted before the deadline.
