The University of Texas Press Publishing Fellowship 2025-2026 is now open for applications, offering two exceptional opportunities for aspiring professionals to gain in-depth knowledge and skills in scholarly and commercial publishing.

The University of Texas Press Publishing Fellowship provides immersive, practical experience for individuals eager to build a career in publishing. Selected fellows will receive:

  • Annual Stipend of $42,000 – This includes a base salary of $38,500 plus a $3,500 health insurance stipend.
  • Full-time, year-long training (Sept. 1, 2025 – Aug. 31, 2026) in a dynamic publishing environment.
  • Opportunity to attend major industry events, including the Association of University Presses annual meeting and one scholarly conference.
  • Professional development & mentorship from seasoned experts in the field.
  • Visiting scholar status at UT Austin, allowing access to campus libraries and other facilities.
  • Comprehensive exposure to multiple departments, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of the publishing process.

Available Fellowships & Responsibilities

1) Marketing and EDP (Editing, Design, and Production) Fellowship

    • Marketing: Gain experience with sales tools, media outreach, catalog creation, book review lists, and author marketing plans.
    • Editing, Design, and Production: Work on manuscript preparation, editing, proofreading, indexing, file formatting, and project management.

2) Marketing Design Fellowship

    • Marketing: Create visual assets for social media, Amazon book pages, display ads, email campaigns, and multimedia content.
    • Technical Skills Required: Proficiency in Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Canva) is necessary.

Both fellowships provide exposure to all departments, ensuring a holistic understanding of the publishing industry.

Who Can Apply? Eligibility Criteria

The Publishing Fellowship 2025-2026 is exclusively available to University of Texas at Austin alumni (undergraduate or graduate) who meet the following criteria:

    • Must have a strong desire to pursue a publishing career.
    • Must be able to commit to a 40-hour workweek in-person at UT Press.
    • Must meet employment eligibility requirements as per UT Austin’s hiring policies.
    • Must sign a statement of understanding before beginning the fellowship.
