Scholarships for Academic Stays at Taiwanese Universities in 2025

Students seeking an enriching academic experience abroad can now apply for scholarships for research stays at Taiwanese universities. Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science, and Research (BMBWF) of Austria, this scholarship program supports diploma and master’s students looking to advance their studies in Natural Sciences, Technical Sciences, Health Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts.

The OeAD-GmbH – Austria’s Agency for Education and Internationalisation administers this program, ensuring a streamlined application process for eligible students.

Benefits of the Scholarship

  • Monthly stipend of €1,800 for up to four months.
  • Travel allowance of up to €1,200.
  • Opportunity to gain study and research experience in a foreign-language environment.
  • Strengthening scientific cooperation and mutual understanding between Austria and Taiwan.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to Austrian and EU citizens enrolled in an Austrian public university, private university, or university of applied sciences.
  • Applicants must have completed at least one semester of the second phase of their diploma program or one semester of a master’s program before applying.
  • Students currently taking exams (minimum 5 ECTS credits in the final semester) or conducting research are also eligible.
  • No age limit applies, but the scholarship is intended for young researchers aiming to advance their academic careers.
  • The scholarship can be used only once per applicant and cannot be extended.

Eligible Host Institutions in Taiwan

The scholarship supports research and academic stays at Taiwanese higher education institutions, including universities, research institutions, libraries, museums, and archives. However, applicants must secure a written confirmation of supervision from the host institution.

Application Process and Required Documents

To apply, candidates must submit the following:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) in English.
  • Study or research plan (2-5 pages in English) justifying the choice of Taiwan and detailing academic objectives.
  • Two recommendation letters from university lecturers (dated, signed, stamped, and not older than six months).
  • Confirmation of supervision from the Taiwanese host institution.
  • Official academic transcripts and diplomas (in English).
  • Additional artistic work samples (if applying in relevant fields like architecture, sculpture, painting, etc.).
