Routledge/Round Table Commonwealth Studentships 2025

The Routledge/Round Table Commonwealth Studentships for 2025 are officially open for applications! These prestigious studentships offer up to £5,500 each to support groundbreaking doctoral research in the humanities and social sciences with a Commonwealth-related focus.


What Is the Commonwealth Studentship?

Organized by The Round Table: The Commonwealth Journal of International Affairs and Routledge, in collaboration with the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), the scheme funds two (2) doctoral research studentships:

    • One for PhD students at UK universities
    • One for PhD students at ACU member universities in other Commonwealth countries

The aim? To encourage impactful research projects that:

    • Relate to the Commonwealth as a whole or its institutions.
    • Offer comparative analysis across Commonwealth countries.
    • Have relevance to more than one Commonwealth country.

Mentorship with a Global Twist

Each applicant must collaborate with a mentor based in a Commonwealth country different from their own. The mentor will:

  • Offer academic and career advice.
  • Provide feedback on publications and trends in your field.
  • Contribute to your podcast or article.
  • Receive a £500 honorarium for their time and insights.

The application period for the Routledge/Round Table Commonwealth Studentships is now open. Interested PhD students must submit their applications by 31 July 2025 at 15:00 UTC.
