Immigration New Zealand Launches Secure Online Visa Application Sharing in May 2025
In a major digital breakthrough designed to simplify the visa process, Immigration New Zealand (INZ) has officially rolled out a streamlined way for immigration advisers, law firms, and applicants to securely share and collaborate on visa applications online. This move enhances transparency, speeds up decision-making, and improves coordination between multiple stakeholders.
This dual-system enhancement supports both the existing Immigration Online platform and the new Enhanced Immigration Online system, ensuring a smooth transition for all users worldwide.
Two (2) Systems, One Goal: Better Visa Application Collaboration
As Immigration New Zealand continues transitioning to a new online platform, users can now securely share applications using two distinct methods depending on which system they are working in.
1# Sharing in the Current Immigration Online System
This system uses “firms” to facilitate group access to visa applications.
How It Works:
-
- Set up your account by enabling client application management under your profile.
- Create a firm with a suitable name (e.g., “Student Visa Team” or “Skilled Migrant Applications”).
- Manage access by assigning admin roles and controlling who can see or edit which applications.
Firm Administrators Can:
-
- Invite/remove users
- Assign admin rights to others
- Oversee all firm-related activity.
2# Sharing in the Enhanced Immigration Online System
This new and improved system allows users to share individual applications or entire networks.
Share With:
-
- An individual – perfect for applicant-adviser collaboration
- A network – ideal for law firms or consultancy teams.
To Share an Application:
-
- Confirm the recipient has an Immigration Online account.
- Request their sharing ID and email.
- Locate the visa application on your dashboard.
- Use the “options” dropdown to share it.
Getting Access as a Collaborator: Share your unique sharing ID with the person applying, or include it if you’re sponsoring an applicant.
Why This Matters?
Whether you’re an international student, a skilled worker, a sponsoring family member, or a registered immigration consultant—New Zealand’s online visa tools are now more accessible, collaborative, and user-friendly than ever before.
As the country ramps up digital transformation in immigration services, global applicants stand to benefit from faster turnaround times and easier coordination with their representatives.
