SAARC Internship Programme 2026 Spring Session Launched
The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) has officially opened its doors to students and researchers through the SAARC Internship Programme (SIP), offering a unique chance to gain direct exposure to one of the most influential regional organizations in South Asia. Hosted at the SAARC Secretariat in Kathmandu, Nepal, this programme aims to deepen academic and professional understanding of regional cooperation, governance, and development.
What the Internship Offers
The internship places selected students or researchers at the SAARC Secretariat for a period ranging from two weeks to six (06) months. During their stay, interns will:
-
- Access official SAARC legal instruments, reports, and ministerial meeting documents.
- Utilize the Secretariat’s library and potentially review ongoing proposals and policy papers.
- Meet Directors and Desk Officers to discuss research projects.
- Attend SAARC meetings in Kathmandu (with the Secretary-General’s approval) and assist in documentation and preparatory work.
- Receive a certificate from the SAARC Secretary-General upon successful completion.
This opportunity is not just academic but also professional, allowing interns to actively participate in the workings of a multilateral body and build networks across the region.
Facilities and Limitations
Interns may be assigned a study room and provided with basic facilities such as a computer, printer, internet, and local phone access. However, all living expenses, accommodation, food, and travel costs are the responsibility of the intern. The programme does not offer stipends. The Secretariat may assist with logistics upon request, but interns must secure their own visa for Nepal.
