The Globalink Mitacs Research Internship is designed for undergraduate students in science, engineering, mathematics, social sciences, and the humanities. Each year, selected candidates are matched with research projects hosted at more than 70 Canadian universities. Interns not only gain hands-on research experience but also benefit from Canada’s strong emphasis on innovation and collaboration.

Eligibility Criteria for 2026

To apply for the 2026 session, students must:

  • Be 18 years or older at the time of application.
  • Be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or combined bachelor’s/master’s program at an eligible institution.
  • Have completed at least two years of study by the internship start date.
  • Possess one to three semesters remaining in their program as of fall 2026.
  • Meet GPA requirements set by their home country partner institution.
  • Apply to three to ten research projects across at least three Canadian provinces.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the working language of the project (English or French).
  • Be available for a 12-week internship between May 1 and October 31, 2026.

Applicants who previously participated in the Globalink program are not eligible. Additionally, restrictions apply for candidates affiliated with institutions engaged in sensitive technology research areas.

Application Process

Students must submit their applications online through the Mitacs Globalink Portal. Required documents include:

  • Updated CV.
  • Official academic transcripts (English or French).
  • A professor’s reference letter.
  • Valid passport details (or proof of renewal in process).

Applicants can select projects that align with their research interests, skills, and academic goals.

Application Deadline

The last date to apply for the Globalink Mitacs Research Internship 2026 is Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. (Pacific Time).
