Undergrad Scholarship Package at Essex for 2026

The award grants a £5,000 reduction in tuition fees for eligible students enrolling in the first year of their undergraduate studies in the academic year 2026–27. It is available only for the first year and will be applied directly to tuition fees upon registration at the University of Essex.

Eligible Countries and Regions

The scholarship is open to students who are ordinarily resident in specific regions, including:

  • Africa – All African Union member states
  • Asia (West, Central & North) – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Hong Kong, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macau, South Korea, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan
  • Asia (South) – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka
  • Asia (Southeast) – Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam
  • Europe (non-EU) – Albania, Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Iceland, Kosovo, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Norway, Russia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, Switzerland
  • The Americas & the Caribbean – USA, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Chile, and many others
  • Middle East – Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, UAE, Yemen.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be classified as overseas fee payers and entirely self-funded (students with repayable loans are considered self-funded).
  • Be ordinarily resident in one of the eligible countries for at least three years before September 2026.
  • Register for the first year of a full-time undergraduate degree (or directly to stage 2/3 if entering through APEL, provided it is their first year at Essex).
  • Combine this award with the Early Bird Discount but not with any other Essex scholarships.
  • Be available for university promotional activities if selected.

Ineligible Students

The following are not eligible for this award:

  • Students from the University of Essex International College (UEIC) Pathway.
  • Students taking Essex Online courses via Kaplan Open Learning.
  • Students joining through University Transfer Link Scholarship or UG Global Transfer Scholarship.
  • Students already receiving course-specific discounts or full sponsorships from governments/external agencies.
  • Current students who began their first undergraduate year prior to 2026–27.

Application Timeline

Eligible international students enrolling for the October 2026 intake at the University of Essex will be automatically assessed for the International Undergraduate Scholarship without the need for a separate application. To meet the ordinary residence requirement, applicants must have been living in one of the eligible countries between 1 September 2023 and 1 September 2026.

It is important to note that the award is valid only for the 2026–27 academic year, and students who choose to defer their entry to later years will lose their eligibility for the scholarship.
