About the Beit Trust Scholarship

The Beit Trust is a UK-based charity that has supported higher education and development in Southern Africa for decades. Its scholarships provide the chance to study at top partner universities in the United Kingdom and South Africa, with a strong focus on fields that directly contribute to growth in the region, such as:

Unlike many other awards, the Beit Trust requires scholars to return home after their studies to apply their skills and knowledge for national development.


What the Scholarship Covers

The Beit Trust Scholarship is fully funded and includes:

  • Generous living allowance to cover daily expenses.
  • Visa costs, health surcharge, and related medical tests.
  • Arrival, laptop, and departure allowances.
  • Economy flights to and from your study destination.

Please note: the scholarship does not cover dependents or spouses.


Eligibility Requirements

To apply successfully, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen and permanent resident of Zambia, Zimbabwe, or Malawi.
  • Hold an undergraduate degree, usually with a First Class/Distinction or at least an Upper Second Class.
  • Apply for a taught Master’s degree at a Beit partner university in the UK or South Africa.
  • Show a commitment to returning home after study.
  • Meet specific requirements if applying in medical or veterinary fields (such as internships and in-country postings).
  • Submit a new application – ongoing courses are not eligible.
  • Note: MBA programmes are not supported by the Beit Trust.

Work experience, leadership potential, and a clear link between the chosen course and home country development are highly valued in the selection process.

Application Process

  1. Choose a course at a Beit Trust partner university.
  2. Apply to the university: https://beittrust.org.uk/beit-trust-scholarships/
  3. Complete the Beit Trust online application form and upload all required documents (transcripts, references, CV, etc.).
  4. Wait for shortlisting – candidates are contacted for interviews in their home country.
  5. Final results announced, usually a few months after interviews.

Every year, over 300 candidates apply, but only about 20 scholarships are awarded – making the program highly competitive.
