Computer Science Internships 2026 at Max Planck Institute

In what can only be described as a dream opportunity for aspiring computer scientists worldwide, the Max Planck Institutes have officially opened applications for their fully funded research internships in Computer Science for the 2025 intake.

This elite program — hosted by the world-renowned Max Planck Institutes for Informatics (Saarbrücken), Software Systems (Saarbrücken & Kaiserslautern), and Security and Privacy (Bochum) — offers students the chance to work alongside some of the most brilliant minds shaping the future of computing.

What Makes This Internship Extraordinary?

These aren’t just any internships — they’re research fellowships in disguise. Selected interns get to:

  • Work directly under faculty mentors on cutting-edge projects across AI, cybersecurity, software engineering, computational theory, and emerging tech fields.
  • Collaborate in an English-speaking, multicultural research environment.
  • Receive full financial coverage, including stipend, housing, and round-trip travel expenses.
  • Experience Germany’s thriving innovation ecosystem while gaining international research exposure.

Internships usually last 12–14 weeks, though extended stays are possible — and many lead to co-authored publications at prestigious conferences.

Who Can Apply?

This golden gateway is open to:

  • Exceptional Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral students from all around the world with a strong Computer Science foundation (about three years of undergraduate coursework).
  • Industry professionals seeking academic research experience.
  • Students looking for thesis or pre-doctoral research projects — internship projects can even convert into formal theses.

The program strongly encourages diversity, welcoming applicants from underrepresented backgrounds and interdisciplinary fields like social science, economics, law, and the humanities.

Why Intern at Max Planck Institutes?

Because it’s where ideas meet impact. The Max Planck Institutes represent Europe’s most prestigious scientific ecosystem — and interning there could be your first step toward a career in top-tier research, academia, or global tech innovation.
