The CrossCulture Programme (CCP) Fellowships 2026, organized by the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (ifa) and funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, has officially opened its call for applications. Each year, this distinguished programme selects around 55 to 60 dedicated professionals and volunteers from more than 40 participating countries, giving them a unique opportunity to work with host organisations in Germany or CCP partner countries.
The CCP Fellowships are designed to connect cultures, strengthen civil society engagement, and foster lasting international cooperation. Over the course of two to three months, Fellows immerse themselves in intercultural experiences that help them expand their professional expertise, engage in dialogue across borders, and build valuable international networks.
Fellowship Benefits and Financial Support
One of the most attractive aspects of the CCP Fellowships is its comprehensive financial support. The programme is fully funded and ensures that Fellows can focus on their work without worrying about expenses.
For participants from abroad, ifa provides a monthly stipend of €650, round-trip airfare, accommodation, a monthly public transportation ticket, health insurance, and reimbursement for visa fees. This funding covers all essential costs throughout the fellowship period.
For participants from Germany, the fellowship includes a monthly stipend of €1,200, which covers accommodation and other living expenses. Additionally, round-trip airfare, visa fees, and health insurance are also funded by ifa.
However, applicants should be aware that the programme does not cover costs for accompanying family members such as spouses or children. Fellows must travel independently and manage their stay solely under the fellowship’s financial support.
Who Can Apply for the Fellowship?
The CCP Fellowship 2026 is open to applicants from a wide range of countries across the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America. Eligible applicants must be at least 23 years old at the time of application and should have at least two years of professional experience or volunteer work in a civil society organisation.
Proficiency in English is essential since it serves as the main language of communication throughout the programme, particularly during workshops and collaborative projects. Applicants are also expected to be in good health, as the fellowship involves a stay abroad lasting several weeks or months. However, it is important to note that students are not eligible to apply for this fellowship.
Beyond the basic eligibility criteria, the selection committee values applicants who have demonstrated a long-term commitment to community or social engagement. Those who already collaborate or plan to collaborate with organisations in the host country are also at an advantage. Additional language skills, especially German, can be beneficial though not mandatory.
Focus Areas and Key Themes for 2026
The CCP Fellowship programme is interdisciplinary and inclusive, covering a wide range of civil society-related fields. For the 2026 cycle, the programme will prioritise applicants working in policy and society, media and culture, human rights and peace, and sustainable development and climate justice.
In addition to these broad categories, the 2026 edition of the programme will introduce special focus themes such as “Culture of Remembrance” and “Democratic Resilience.” These themes aim to promote awareness of historical memory and strengthen democratic values through education, dialogue, and community engagement.
The Application Process
Applying for the CCP Fellowship requires careful preparation, but the process is straightforward. Interested candidates must apply online through the official CCP application portal. It is important to note that the system does not allow saving incomplete applications — hence, applicants should gather and prepare all documents beforehand.
The required documents include a Curriculum Vitae (CV) in English, detailing education, professional experience, volunteer activities, and skills. A letter of recommendation from a supervisor or organisational leader in the applicant’s home country is mandatory and must be submitted using the official CCP template. Uploading a photo is optional.
Once the CCP fellowship application is submitted, candidates will receive an email confirmation. After the application deadline, shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview conducted by the CCP Selection Board. Final results are announced by email, and selected Fellows will be informed of their placements in March or April 2026. The fellowship activities will take place between May and November 2026.
Important Dates to Remember
The application period for the CCP Fellowships 2026 runs from 15 October to 10 December 2025. Applicants are encouraged to apply well before the closing date to ensure successful submission and consideration. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted under any circumstances.
