Fully-funded Scholarships 2026-2027 (International Students)

Hungary Opens 2026/27 Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Applications

If you’ve ever dreamed of studying in Europe without worrying about tuition fees or living costs, Hungary has just opened the doors for you. The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme 2026/2027 is officially accepting applications — and it’s one of the most generous, life-changing opportunities for students from every corner of the world.

A Life-Changing Opportunity

Imagine walking through the historic streets of Budapest or Szeged while studying at one of Europe’s top universities — all fully funded. The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship, launched by the Hungarian Government, covers your tuition fees, monthly living allowance, accommodation contribution, and medical insurance. In other words, your academic dreams come with a plane ticket to Europe and the chance to earn a degree recognized across the continent.

Every year, thousands of students compete for this prestigious award — and in the last round, over 80,000 applicants tried their luck, with 4,500 scholarships awarded. This program has become a global symbol of academic excellence and international cooperation.

What You Get as a Scholarship Winner?

Being a Stipendium Hungaricum scholar means you won’t just study abroad — you’ll live like a true European student.
Here’s what the scholarship covers:

  • Full tuition fee exemption – study at Hungary’s top universities without paying a single euro in tuition.
  • Monthly stipend of HUF 43,700 (around €110) to help cover everyday living expenses.
  • Free dormitory placement or an accommodation contribution of HUF 40,000 (€100) per month.
  • Comprehensive medical insurance worth up to HUF 65,000 (€165) per year.

While this support is generous, applicants are encouraged to budget for additional personal costs — especially in major cities like Budapest.

Study Options Tailored for Every Dream

Whether you’re aiming for a Bachelor’s, Master’s, One-Tier Master’s, or Postgraduate Specialist Training course, Hungary has something for everyone. Nearly 900 study programs are open for international students — primarily in English, but also in Hungarian, French, and German.

You can even apply for a Hungarian language preparatory course, giving you a year to immerse yourself in the culture before starting your degree. Students can select up to two study programs in order of preference, offered across 30 Hungarian universities participating in the 2026/27 intake.

Who Can Apply?

The Stipendium Hungaricum is open to students from over 100 partner countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America. Applicants must apply through their sending partner institutions (such as ministries of education or foreign affairs). There are no agency fees, and applying through third parties is strongly discouraged.

Hungarian citizens (including dual nationals), refugees, and permanent residents of Hungary are not eligible. Applicants must also be 18 years old or above by 31 August 2026.

How to Apply?

The process is simple, transparent, and entirely online:

  1. Register and complete your application at the official portal: apply.stipendiumhungaricum.hu
  2. Submit your documents — including your motivation letter, transcripts, proof of language proficiency, and passport copy — by 15 January 2026 (2:00 p.m. CET).
  3. Nomination and selection take place between January and May 2026.
  4. Results are announced in June 2026. Successful students must accept their offer by 1 August 2026 and arrive in Hungary by 30 September 2026.

If you’re applying for Art or Music programs, you’ll also need to upload your portfolio or performance samples as part of your application.

Why This Scholarship Stands Out?

Unlike most scholarships that cover only tuition or part of living expenses, Stipendium Hungaricum provides a complete study experience. You’ll join an academic community that’s truly international — students from Pakistan, Nigeria, Indonesia, Brazil, Egypt, and dozens of other countries study side by side.

Beyond academics, you’ll explore a country known for its rich history, beautiful architecture, and student-friendly lifestyle. Plus, upon graduation, you’ll hold a European degree that opens doors to jobs and further studies worldwide.

Application Deadline: The last date to apply for the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship 2026/2027 is 15 January 2026 (2:00 p.m. CET). Apply now, take a step into Europe’s academic heart, and let your journey begin with Hungary.
