Mozambique Students Scholarships 2026 by Fulbright Foreign Student Program Open
Mozambican graduates and final-year students now have a direct pathway to pursue fully funded Master’s, Ph.D., or non-degree research programs in the United States under the prestigious 2027–2028 Fulbright Foreign Student Program. Launched by the U.S. Embassy Maputo and administered by the U.S. Department of State in partnership with the Institute of International Education, this globally recognized program is designed to strengthen academic excellence, leadership, and long-term development cooperation.
Successful candidates will begin their studies in August 2027, with funding covering up to two years of advanced graduate education in the U.S. All academic fields are eligible, with priority given to disciplines aligned with Mozambique’s national development priorities and U.S. strategic interests, including Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Disease Prevention, Health Digitization, STEM, Conflict Negotiation, Supply Chain Management, and Trade.
Number of awards: Multiple scholarships are available for qualified Mozambican applicants.
Applicants with limited English proficiency may be considered for the Long-Term English (LTE) Program, which provides up to eight months of funded English language training before academic placement.

The scholarship package includes:

Who Can Apply: Eligibility Requirements Explained

Applicants must:
- Be citizens or permanent residents of Mozambique with a valid Mozambican passport
- Hold at least the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree (minimum four years of university study)
- Final-year students may apply but must submit diploma and final transcripts by August 2026
- Three-year degree holders must demonstrate 13 years of primary/secondary education and eligibility for further study in Mozambique
- Demonstrate strong English proficiency suitable for full-time graduate study
- Meet minimum required standardized test benchmarks (TOEFL, GRE, or GMAT as applicable)
- Show leadership potential, strong motivation, and commitment to return to Mozambique after completion
- Not be previous Fulbright Student or Humphrey Program recipients (FLTA alumni may apply)
- Not be a current or recent employee of the U.S. Department of State
- Preferably have limited or no recent U.S. study experience
Additional LTE eligibility:
- Only Master’s candidates qualify
- Not open to Ph.D., MBA, Law, or non-degree candidates
- English, TEFL, or Linguistics candidates must score at least 72 on TOEFL for LTE consideration
- Dependents are not permitted during LTE training
Not eligible:
- Applicants seeking medical internships, residencies, or clinical programs
- Employees of U.S. missions abroad and immediate family members (during employment and up to one year after)
Study Tracks and Duration Options
Applicants may choose between:
- Graduate Degree Program: 1–2 years toward a Master’s or Ph.D. degree (Master’s candidates prioritized).
- Non-Degree Research (Visiting Researcher): 9–10 months of research engagement (not renewable).
