Applications are open until September 9, 2026 at 14:00 EDT, and selected fellows will join virtual programming plus two required in-person gatherings at Yale University in the United States and Rose Castle in the United Kingdom.
The important point is that this is not a student scholarship. It is a professional leadership fellowship aimed at people who already have a serious record of work in peace and reconciliation.
Yale Peace Fellowship vs YYGS: Which One Is for You?
The two Yale programs target completely different applicants.
Choose Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) if you are a high school student, typically aged 16–18, seeking a two-week academic summer experience at Yale. YYGS may provide need-based aid covering up to 100% of tuition.
Choose the Yale Peace Fellowship if you are already an established professional with significant experience in peacebuilding or reconciliation. Yale normally expects around five or more years of meaningful professional experience.
So the decision is simple: high school student = YYGS; experienced peacebuilding professional = Yale Peace Fellowship.
Who Can Apply for the Yale Peace Fellowship?
You should apply if your professional work already demonstrates leadership and impact in peace or reconciliation.
Applicants are generally expected to:
- Have substantial professional experience, normally at least five years
- Demonstrate accomplishment in peace and reconciliation work
- Show leadership potential
- Be fluent in English
- Be committed to cross-cultural understanding
- Be a citizen of a country other than the United States
Dual U.S. citizens may still apply, although preference is given to applicants whose work is focused internationally.
Significant full-time internships can potentially count toward the experience requirement when they involved real responsibility and leadership.
What Does Yale Cover?
The fellowship covers the major costs associated with the compulsory in-person components.
Selected fellows receive coverage for:
- International or domestic travel
- Accommodation
- Meals during the convenings
Applicants must, however, pay a $20 application fee, and Yale does not offer an application-fee waiver.
When Does the Fellowship Take Place?
Attendance at all components is compulsory.
The Yale convening in New Haven is scheduled for April 12–16, 2027, while the closing gathering at Rose Castle in the United Kingdom will run from June 14–18, 2027.
If you cannot attend both in-person sessions, this fellowship is probably not suitable because the physical convenings cannot simply be replaced with online participation.
What Do You Need to Apply?
The application is completed online and requires:
- A CV or résumé of no more than three pages
- Personal statement of up to 600 words
- One confidential recommendation letter
- A 90-second video statement
- $20 application fee
The video deserves special attention because applicants receive only two recording attempts, and the second recording becomes the version reviewed.
How Can You Make Your Application Stronger?
Do not build the application around vague claims such as wanting to “make the world more peaceful.”
Instead, show what you have actually done.
Explain the conflict or reconciliation challenge you worked on, your personal responsibility, the results of that work and what you hope to learn from the fellowship.
Your recommender should also know your leadership and work closely enough to give specific evidence of your contribution.

The last date to apply for the Yale Peace Fellowship 2027 is September 9, 2026 at 14:00 EDT.
Applications cannot be edited after submission, deadline extensions are not available, and Yale recommends avoiding last-minute submission.
