How Much Funding Will You Receive Upon Winning CSC Scholarship?

The Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship currently provides:

• Full approved tuition fees;
• Return airfare between your home country and the UK;
• £1,712 per month living allowance;
• £2,000 per month if studying at a university in the London metropolitan area;
• Study-related travel support;
• additional disability support where eligible;
• And limited child allowance for eligible widowed, divorced or single-parent scholars.

For an eligible single parent, the current contribution can include £622 per month for the first child and £154 per month for the second and third children under 16, subject to CSC conditions.

Who Can Apply for the Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship?

Before you spend time on university choices and nomination forms, run yourself through this quick eligibility check. Can you answer yes to all of these?

• Are you from an eligible Commonwealth country? You must normally be a citizen of, refugee from, or otherwise eligible under a participating country.
• Do you permanently live in an eligible country? Citizenship alone is not enough if your residency situation falls outside the scholarship rules.
• Can you start your UK Master’s in September 2027?
• Do you have at least a UK 2:1-equivalent degree? On a typical U.S.-style 4.0 scale, around 3.3+/4.0 is a useful planning benchmark, but it is not an official CSC cutoff.

Which Master’s Subjects Can You Study?

The Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship is much broader than a small list of predetermined degrees. Applicants can select a one-year taught Master’s programme connected to one of CSC’s six development themes:

• Science and technology for development
• Improving population health, health systems and capacity
• Promoting innovation and entrepreneurship
• Strengthening peace, security and governance
• Strengthening resilience and response to crises
• Access, inclusion and opportunity

This can potentially include programmes in:

Artificial intelligence, computer science, engineering, biotechnology, agriculture, environmental sciences, climate change, renewable energy, public health, epidemiology, economics, development studies, education, international relations, public policy, governance, law, data science, food security, water management, social sciences and many other development-related disciplines.

However, CSC does not fund MBA programmes or research Master’s degrees through this scholarship.

Which UK Universities Can Commonwealth Master’s Scholars Attend?

The main Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship is available only at UK universities that have a current part-funding agreement with the CSC.

Applicants can list up to three university/course choices in order of preference.

This is not the same as the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship university/course list. Shared Scholarships have their own approved course competition and separate application structure.

Do You Need IELTS?

CSC itself does not require candidates to take IELTS.

That does not automatically mean you can study in the UK without proving English proficiency and your selected university may require:

• IELTS;
• TOEFL;
• PTE;
• another accepted English test;
• or evidence that your previous education satisfies its English-language exemption policy.

Therefore: No IELTS requirement from CSC ≠ no English requirement from the university.

How Many Applications Needs to be Submitted for Commonwealth Master Degree Scholarship?

This is probably the most important part of the entire process. For the main Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship, think of the application as three connected processes:

1# Apply to CSC Central

Complete the official Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship application through CSC Central.

You will provide your academic history, employment background, development-impact statements, proposed study plan, leadership/volunteering evidence, university choices and supporting documents.

2# Apply Through a Nominating Agency (Link Given Below in Article)

You must also apply through an approved nominator. The principal route is your country’s national nominating agency, although selected NGOs and charitable organizations can also nominate candidates under their own eligibility rules.

CSC does not accept direct applications without nomination.

3# Apply Separately to Your UK Universities

Your Commonwealth Scholarship application is not a UK university’s admission application. Applicants should separately apply for admission to their selected Master’s programmes.

CSC specifically recommends doing this in advance of or alongside the scholarship process, because a scholarship cannot proceed if the selected candidate ultimately cannot secure admission.

How Do You Find Your Commonwealth Nominating Agency?

The process is simple:

Step 4: Visit that agency’s own website because it may impose a different—and sometimes earlier—deadline than CSC.

For example, the current CSC directory identifies Pakistan’s national route through the relevant government nomination process and directs applicants toward the country’s education authorities.

Applicants should therefore never assume:

“CSC closes October 20, 2026, so I can wait until October 20.”

Your national nominator may close applications earlier.

What Documents Should You Prepare for Commonwealth MS Scholarship Application?

Applicants should begin assembling:

• Passport or eligible national identity evidence;
• Complete university transcripts for all higher-education qualifications;
• certified English translations where necessary;
• At least two completed references;
