Nanjing University CSC Scholarship 2027-2028: Lets Prepare Your Application Material Step By Step
What would you study at Nanjing University if your tuition and accommodation were covered—and you received a monthly stipend? Its 2027 Chinese Government Scholarship offers eligible master’s and PhD applicants a funded route into subjects spanning sciences, computing, architecture, business, social sciences and the humanities.
The opportunity is broad, but the application has a few traps. Is your chosen degree taught in English or Chinese? Do you need a professor’s acceptance letter before applying? Should your study plan and research proposal be separate documents? And why are there two application systems with different deadlines?
NJU has published its rules ahead of the 1 November 2026 opening, so you can resolve those questions now. This guide helps you choose a programme, check your eligibility, prepare the right documents and follow the NJU-to-CSC application sequence before the first deadline on 20 January 2027.

Which degrees and subjects can you choose for 2027 at NJU?
This scholarship route covers master’s and doctoral study in programmes appearing on NJU’s published 2027 list. The list includes subjects across philosophy, economics, business, law, international relations, sociology, journalism, mathematics, physics, chemistry, life sciences, computer science, artificial intelligence, architecture and environmental studies. It does not provide an undergraduate route.
Check the teaching language beside your exact degree. The 2027 list includes English-taught master’s options such as international relations, computer technology, artificial intelligence and architecture, alongside many Chinese-taught options. English-taught doctoral options include mathematics, chemistry, computer science and technology, and several other fields. Do not assume that every degree within a school is available in both languages.
Should you contact a professor before applications open?
You can explore supervision now, particularly for a PhD, but a professor’s acceptance letter is not required with the initial Nanjing university CSC scholarship of Type B application. NJU has not stated that obtaining such letters is the reason for its early announcement. The useful head start is the chance to choose a programme, develop your academic case and make a relevant faculty contact before the portal opens.
For doctoral research, identify a potential supervisor in the relevant NJU school and read some of their recent work. Send a short, individual email explaining your proposed question, its connection to their research and your preparation for the project. You can attach a concise CV and focused research outline. A positive reply may help you plan, but it is neither an NJU pre-admission letter nor a CSC scholarship award.
The formal supervisor-related document comes later. Doctoral candidates who pass NJU’s departmental assessment receive a pre-admission letter and a personal statement bearing the supervisor’s signature for the subsequent CSC application.
Who qualifies, and what does the NJU CSC Scholarships pay?
Eligible non-Chinese applicants need the qualifying degree, must meet the scholarship age limit and must satisfy the language rule for their chosen programme. Master’s applicants need a bachelor’s degree and must be no older than 35; doctoral applicants need a master’s degree and must be no older than 40. Applicants due to graduate in 2027 may submit a pre-graduation certificate if they can obtain the required degree by July 2027. NJU also requires applicants to be physically and mentally healthy.
For Chinese-taught programmes, natural sciences, engineering and medicine require HSK 4 at admission and HSK 5 by graduation. Liberal arts, social sciences and business require HSK 5 at admission and HSK 6 by graduation. For English-taught programmes, NJU lists IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 85, TOEFL Essentials 9 or Duolingo English Test 100 at admission; students must reach HSK 3 by graduation. The Type B notice does not state that a previous English-medium degree or proficiency letter can replace a listed test result.
The award waives tuition and provides accommodation in NJU’s international dormitory. It pays RMB 3,000 per month for master’s students during a two- or three-year programme, or RMB 3,500 per month for doctoral students during a four-year programme. NJU also provides RMB 800 per year for the required health insurance. The published package does not promise airfare or support for dependants.
Scholarship holders must study full-time at NJU and pass annual review. Students already granted another Chinese scholarship or Chinese funding for 2027–2028 cannot hold it alongside this award; undisclosed overlapping funding can result in cancellation and repayment.
How should you prepare your scholarship documents?
Begin with records and recommendations that depend on someone else, then time your medical and police documents to meet Nanjing University’s six-month rule. Draft a study plan and research proposal where relevant, but read NJU’s upload list accurately: it names a personal statement for the initial Type B application, rather than separately requiring both documents under those titles.

If an original document is in neither Chinese nor English, include a notarized translation into one of those languages. Keep consistent copies: CSC will assess the documents in its system against those submitted to NJU.
How do the NJU and CSC applications fit together?
Apply to NJU first; applicants who receive NJU pre-admission then complete the separate CSC submission. A university nomination advances your application to CSC but does not guarantee the scholarship.
- Read NJU’s official 2027 Type B instructions and find your exact degree, teaching language and duration in the linked 2027 graduate programme list. Use the personal statement and medical forms supplied with the notice. NJU’s general graduate application fee is RMB 600, but the Type B notice does not clarify whether it applies to this scholarship route; check any payment request in the application system.
- From 1 November 2026 to 20 January 2027, apply through NJU’s international student application system. Choose “CSC Scholarship Type B” and upload the requested documents. NJU says initial-review feedback normally arrives within three working days; complete any requested corrections by its deadline.
- Watch your NJU system messages and email. Applications passing initial review go to the relevant school or department for assessment in late February 2027. Successful applicants are expected to receive NJU pre-admission in the first half of March; doctoral applicants also receive the supervisor-signed personal statement needed for CSC.
- Before 17 March 2027, apply in the CSC Study in China system. Select programme type B, enter NJU agency number 10284, and upload the NJU pre-admission letter and matching materials. Doctoral applicants must also upload their supervisor-signed personal statement. If you already submitted a CSC application without the pre-admission letter, follow NJU’s instruction to withdraw it, add the letter and resubmit.
What are the deadlines—and what can you do today?
The first deadline is 20 January 2027 for NJU; the second is before 17 March 2027 for CSC, if NJU grants you pre-admission. You do not need to wait until November to begin. Try this short application challenge before leaving the page:
- Move 1 — Pick your route: Write down one degree from NJU’s 2027 list, its teaching language and whether you meet its entry requirements. If you cannot name the exact programme yet, that is your first task.
- Move 2 — Find your slowest document: Check whether your degree record, transcripts, two recommendations or language score will take longest to obtain. Send the first necessary request today.
- Move 3 — Start the academic case: Write three sentences explaining what you want to study, why that particular NJU programme fits and what you bring to it. Research applicants can turn those sentences into a focused outline for their personal statement or a prospective supervisor.
Keep the medical examination and non-criminal record on your checklist, but obtain them at a time that satisfies NJU’s six-month requirement. Then, when the NJU portal opens on 1 November 2026, you will have a chosen programme and a working document file instead of an empty application.
Application deadline: The last date to apply to Nanjing University for the 2027 Chinese Government Scholarship Type B High-Level Postgraduate Program is 20 January 2027.
