University of Electro-Communications MEXT Scholarship Spring 2025

The University of Electro-Communications (UEC Tokyo), through its Graduate School of Informatics and Engineering, is offering an exciting opportunity for international students to apply for the prestigious Japanese government MEXT Scholarship for the Spring 2025 admissions.

This scholarship is available for foreign students interested in enrolling in two exceptional programs: the Leadership Development Program for Self-Evolving Smart Societies (SESS) and the Human Resource Development Program Facilitating the Resolution of Global Energy Challenges (GECHA).

Available Course Program Overview

1# Leadership Development Program for Self-Evolving Smart Societies (SESS): This program focuses on developing high-level human resources who will lead the solution of social issues and reforms in their home countries. Emphasizing carbon neutrality, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and economic security, SESS prepares students to become global leaders capable of driving significant social change.

2# Human Resource Development Program Facilitating the Resolution of Global Energy Challenges (GECHA): GECHA aims to cultivate experts who can address global energy challenges through practical global education, leveraging AI and quantum science. This program is designed to build a network of international brainpower dedicated to solving energy-related issues, particularly in developing countries.

Scholarship Benefits

Selected students will receive the following benefits under the MEXT Scholarship:

Monthly Allowance:

    • Master’s Course: 144,000 JPY per month (for 2 years)
    • Doctoral Course: 145,000 JPY per month (for 3 years)
    • A regional allowance of 2,000 JPY or 3,000 JPY may be added based on location.

Tuition and Admission Fees: Full waiver of admission and tuition fees.

Travel Costs: An economy-class air ticket from the international airport closest to the student’s residence to Tokyo, Japan.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Age: Applicants must be born on or after April 2, 1990. Exceptions may be made for those who lost educational opportunities due to war, military service, or other significant events.
  • Nationality: Priority is given to applicants from the “Focus Countries.” However, up to two students from other nationalities may also be recommended.
  • Health: Applicants must be physically and mentally healthy enough to pursue their studies.
  • Academic Performance: A minimum GPA of 2.30 on a 3.00 scale is required, based on the JASSO evaluation scale.
  • Language Proficiency:
    • Japanese: Applicants must have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level N2 or higher, or have equivalent language skills.
    • English: Applicants must have a B2 level or higher on the CEFR scale or equivalent scores in recognized English proficiency tests.

3# Selection Process: The university will conduct a selection process in February 2025, with notification of acceptance by June 2025.
