AUT PhD Scholarship Overview

AUT offers two types of doctoral scholarships:

  1. AUT Vice Chancellor’s Doctoral Scholarships – Available throughout the year for outstanding students, this scholarship is offered to new doctoral applicants with exceptional academic achievements. For New Zealand-based students with a GPA of 8.0 or above, and Māori and domestic Pacific applicants with a GPA of 7.5 or above, the scholarship promises full tuition coverage and a generous stipend.
  2. AUT Doctoral Scholarships – Open to all eligible candidates (New Zealand citizens, permanent residents, and international students), these scholarships will be available three times a year: November 1, 2024, 1st March 2025, and 15th July 2025. AUT will provide full tuition fees and an annual living stipend of NZD 33,000!

Eligibility varies slightly between the two scholarships:

1# AUT Vice Chancellor’s Doctoral Scholarships:

    • Māori and domestic Pacific applicants with a GPA of 7.5 or above are encouraged to apply.
    • You must have completed your most recent qualifying program at a New Zealand tertiary institution.

2# AUT Doctoral Scholarships:

    • Open to all students, including international candidates.
    • Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence with a first-class honours degree or equivalent.
    • Your proposed field of study must align with AUT’s research capability, so finding a supervisor is crucial!
